Exporting and importing files in and out of Daz

I figured out how to export certain files out of Daz, found an easy program to make any mods I want, and I can get them back into Daz. But once I get them back into Daz, they aren't the same, as in I can no longer move body parts around or apply textures. I have been exporting as a .obj file and importing that .obj file into another program, then reversing the process once I make any mods. Obviously somewhere in the process I am losing some parameters or characteristics of the file. Is there a way around this? If I modify a body or item outside of Daz, it would really be nice to be able to move that body around and pose it or apply textures once I get it back into Daz.

OBJ is static, it doesn't contain rigging (poseability).
If you simply want to change the shape, make sure (if there's a Mesh resolution group in the Parameters pane) that you set the resolution to Base, and that there's only one item visible, export that, make your changes, and then instead of importing the OBJ use Morph Loader Pro, clicking the Choose Morph Files to select your OBJ and making sure that the preset listed on the From: button matches the one you used when exporting. That will create a new morph.
If, on the other hand, you are wanting to add or remove parts of the mesh (adding a tail, say, or creating clothes) then you will need to rig it. For Genesis and other newer figures create or modify your exported OBJ, import it, and use the transfer utility to rig it to match the original (Edit>Figure>Transfer Utility), setting the Source to Genesis (or whatever) and the Target to your imported OBJ. and you should have at least a rough figure - the more different it is from the base figure the more work there will be to get it right, and that's a bit advanced for a single post. Rigging older figures is a bit more complex, so I will leave that unless it proves to be relevant.
