Daz doens't use my AMD Radeon GPU while rendering

I just noticed this problem here, that daz isn't using my gpu while rendering, it's using cpu, and infact, it turns out that apparently is doesn't even see my gpu, since there is no option to select gpu in Advanced tap of render settings. How can i fix this? Help.

  • Iray is owned by nvidia and so only uses nvidia GPUs.  Your only options with that machine are to use the CPU to render (you could use 3Delight or Iray) or to install a nvidia graphics card.  There are some third-part add-on renderers which might use your card, but I don't know about those.

Nope, I'm sorry, you can't use your GPU with Daz Studio! :'(

It's a pity, because AMD GPUs have much more VRAM at a lower price...but they would have to change the whole software and store basically, so things will go on like this.

Your option is to use "Octane Render" with Daz Studio Plugin, but it would cost you 20$/month.

    Or simply change GPU/software :'(

    Roger that!

Btw, I recently re-installed DAZ Studio 4.8 onto a computer that has Nvidia graphics. Renders seem good, but something to do with sub-surface scattering didn't seem to get installed, compared to my other computer. I tried creating the necessary path -- which is to a script by Age of Armor -- by hand but no go; loading G2F (say) continues to generate an error message that the resource is missing. It still renders; but something is missing.

**A new problem** - just now I tried DAZ Studio 4.10, downloading everything onto a third computer, an HP Pavilion.  Another road block!  A new error message says that I don't have Open GL version 1.3

Should I go back to 4.8, I wonder?

You probably should just update the OpenGl drive if you can and the Nvidia driver also...

Is 3Delight GPU rendering? Or also CPU?

    3Delight is CPU renderering

Iray is a Nvidia product. AMD/ATI is used more by gamers. Nvidia is more for content creators and 3D artists. However AMDs Pro Render may challenge Iray. Will there be a plugin for Daz? There is a plugin for Blender...

I believe Luxrender\Reality 3D are supported by AMD/ATI... IRAY is not...

AMD is great for many creators, for example in Premiere etc. For the same money and performance, you usually get much more VRAM.

Nope, they say they'll stick to Iray, because otherwise the creators would have to redo everything.

I concur there is more bang for the buck with AMD/ATI gpus over Nvidia. The same can be said about their cpus vs Intel. But most 3D apps I use DAZ/Iray, e-onsoftware's Vue, 3DCoat all prefer CUDA (Nvidia) to OpenCL (AMD). My jump from ATI to Nvidia was because Vue's viewport  just stumbled with an AMD/ATI card. I find most 3D apps seem to prefer CUDA. Now this may change with the new AMD card that was on display last week at CES. Even AMD CEO Lisa Su focused more on gaming then content creation when presenting the new AMD powerhouse card. AMD also has Pro Renderer. I wonder if there will be a Daz plugin?

    AMD Pro Renderer

And for the record I hate being stuck to a specific hardware vendor. I believe in competition. BUT AMD does not support CUDA.

Thanks... I didn't know that. Now looking at an applicable wiki. You're probably right about the Nvidia driver - when I went to the Sony web page **there was** at least one new Nvidia-related item, and they appear to have fixed the Blu-Ray player which I had given up on. smiley

  • Whether you use an automatic option or not never get Nvidia drivers anywhere but Nvidia.
