Yes, you can make a variety of adjustments in the Surfaces pane - there is an option to select all skin surfaces in the list at left of the Editor tab, and the settings for the currently selected surface(s) are on the right.
Thanks Richard, I hadn't gotten to the surfaces pane yet, and will do so now. Reading the user guide page by page, so should have fewer basic questions in time.
Ok, I've watched the DAZ video in the manual about the surfaces tab, and now understand it's basic operation. I have surfaces tool on. I have the muscle shirt in Gen 8 male selected. I see that selection highlighted in the surfaces tab. I see all the property sliders on the right side of the surfaces tab panel. But...
None of the sliders seem to change the color of the muscle shirt. I can't see that they do anything.
I'm obviously doing something wrong. Any idea what exactly?
Thanks!
PS: It looks like the channel that changes color is Diffuse Color, and that such a channel is not available for muscle shirt. Is that it? Muscle shirt color can't be changed?

With IRay that would be base color, it's called diffuse color in 3DL.
Ah, ok, so if a diffuse color slider is not available in a particular case, that means I can't adjust the color for that particular item. If that's wrong, feel free to correct me. Otherwise, I got it, thanks.
This is a good tutorial on skin settings if you are looking to tweak the color as opposed to changing it outright. If you are using Iray, adjusting SSS reflectance tint and translucency weight can help reduce the red/orangness you sometimes get.

Funny, I find the standard skin colour of G8F pretty ok, but can't stand the one G8M comes with...

As Sven Dullah said, Base colour is the equivalent of Diffuse Colour for the Iray Uber shader.
Thanks Chezjuan, I'll definitely take a look at that.
To further clarify my question, I'm using OpenGL for now, and ignoring iRay. My current projects don't merit iRay render times.
I'll keep playing with it.
