A bit of help with EVERYTHING

Hi guys, I've recently entered into wonderful world of 3D animation with Daz Studio. I was using poser a couple of years ago, but I used it for simple characters, nothing complex. Hovewer, with Daz, I've decided to give it a try and try to create some really nice scenes. I have a lot of content, downloaded from other sites. My first problem is that a lot of items just have an exclamation (!) mark next to them saying that the file doesn't exist. I know that all files are there because I installed all the packages manually. I am storing my content on external HDD atm, until I get my rendering PC.

Second problem: content, modifications, clothes etc. I want to create a basic child figure, I have a collection of GrowingUp packs, morph kits etc. I can somehow apply the body shape, but not the head. Any ideas how to fix that? Clothes seem to be working just fine, it's just those sliders for modifying a shape of something. I will write more detailed packets which cause me trouble tomorrow.

Third problem: SKIN. I bought skin creator for G3F and G8F to use on my characters (even male ones, you can apparently use a trick to apply it on) but can't find it anywhere.

Fourth problem: My first rendered image was TINY. like, 10x10 pixels tiny. I am using MB Pro 2014 until I get my PC.

Thank you for all the answers in advancem

Generally speaking I too have "lost" things from time to time... but then again most of my stuff is from the DAZ store so it can be restored from the cloud using DIM. I do have lots of non-DAZ stuff that I haven't been able to get to work, not in their entirety anyway. crying

Maybe you want to "Refresh" the folders you are working in, to ensure that Studio has your stuff mapped properly?

I don't have any experience with custom skin but for the size of the renders, I believe DAZ Studio remembers the last value I entered, eg. "1,024" pixels wide or "2,048" pixels wide and so on. I usually double-check the value, in the Render Settings pane because if I accidently put in a big number (anything over 15,000 for me is really big, and most things are under 4,000) I know I will be regretting it!

P.S. My biggest problem has been with Whitemagus' skyscraper kit for Poser. Have no idea where or how it's supposed to go. Going to have to send a snail mail letter overseas!!!

  • If you installed manually it may well be that the placement is one folder off - too high or too low in the chain of folders. What are your content directories, and where exactly is one of the ! files?

The second and third issues may also be realted to installation.

The last - are you sure it wasn't 91 pixels square (thumbnail size)? Render size iss et in the Editor tab of the Render Settings pane. By default DS saves to the Render Library, and generates a 91 pixel square thumbnail for each mage to show in its Render Library pane.

If you've loaded everything to an external drive make sure that daz knows where they are.. I have all of my content on external drives and Daz itself on my C drives.  Let me see if I can find the thread that explains how to get Daz to find the files in other drives

    Thank you Google....https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/79776/getting-ds-to-recognize-content-on-external-hard-drive

These are the directions I've used several times
