What PC Components Influence The Scene "Navigation"?

Hi everyone! :D

I was wondering: how does the scene navigation work for you?

To me, it always stutters, especially if I'm moving something around or posing a character!

I've kinda solved it switching to "smooth shaded" and to "wire bounding box" while I'm manipulating something, but it's not the best experience, since you can't precisely tell where something is while you're doing that, and you just only have a vague idea of what's going on until you stop.

Iray preview is the most demanding, slowing down my entire PC and not just Daz, but "Texture Shaded" stutters more too.

So, what parts of my hardware are causing this?

In the "resource utilization" window there usually isn't anything too stressed out, but I don't know how to check the single core usage instead of the total CPU usage.

I have everything on a faster-than-light 970 Evo SSD (and it's much better since I've made this switch), then I have 2x4Gb 2800Mhz RAM (upgrading to 16Gb this very afternoon) and a Ryzen 5 1600, with 6 cores and 12 threads...it doesn't seem a bad system to me, but why does it always stutter in texture shaded without wire bounding box during the manipulation?

Thanks, it's always nice to learn something new! :D

  • Memory matters, especially at the lower end (which 8GB would be), but the biggest factor is likely to be the GPU (you don't say what you have). Also check your settings in Edit>Preferences (Daz Studio preferences for a Mac) for texture Sahded performance, Iray is governed mainly by the Draw Settings pane.

Thank you for your answer Richard, checking every single setting I've discovered what the problem was!

My system is more than capable to generate a continous texture shaded image!!! The problem is that the default setting for "Display Optimization" is none. Now that I've checked "Best", it all runs smoothly. I'm using almost the same amout of VRAM (700Mb) and of system memory (6Gb) as always, maybe because I've set the slider to "Performance".

I'm very glad I've solved this problem, thanks to another thread of this forum I've found on Google, but I can't believe I've spent months in a very "stuttering" interface when all I needed was to click that "Display Optimization" setting... :'(

Now I can even use directly the "Iray" preview!!! It runs even more smoothly than the "Smooth Shaded" I've used so far! The scene I'm currently working on has 3 characters and a house, and it needs 2,7Gb of VRAM (I have a GTX 1060 3Gb, so I'm at the edge here...), and 11Gb of system memory, so I'm glad I've made this upgrade to 16Gb! :D

Bottom line, for whoever is coming here for a curiosity or from Google: turn the "Display Optimization" setting to "Best", it will change your entire experience with Daz Studio!!!

The Mouse and Keyboard; faults here are unlikely to be an issue (especially with what you describe), but it does happen.

Sorry, I'm not understanding: what are you suggesting?

It did the same with the keyboard shortcuts, now it's fixed with the "Display Optimization" setting! ^^
