Creating portals and cutting characters and object

I was wondering how you can achieve portal effects. Like in game portal.

And also cut character in parts like in magic tricks.

My suggestion would be to pose your character how you want them, then you can use the file -> send to -> hexagon (I believe that's where the bridge is at in the menu) then in hexagon, create a primitive plane and have it passing through your character where you would like them cut. Then in the surface modeling tab at the top of hexagon, select your character, select the boolean operation icon, then select the primitive plane. a few options will eventually show up on the right under the properties box and select the one you think makes the most sense. If the outcome isn't what you expect, you can undo and try again.

This operation can take a few minutes so be patient with your computer.

  • The character comes out white. Also the interface is kind of odd. Since I am taking the chacter out of daz3d anyways is it ok if I use other 3d software? Or is there any advantage of using hexagon.

Other modeler should be fine. This method is achieving the effect by actually removing part of the figure. I think another method worth considering is to assemble multiple renders in photoshop...

well you can also simply hide half the meshes with the geometry editor but you cannot let the empty shell face the camera

oh yeah. That's the winner I think, if you're willing to render in DS.

  • Open photoshop import the maps base map of the object then erase half the map. Open Daz Studio select figure and apply the cut opacity map I find this works faster than using the Geometry map method.
