Deleting References from within the Smart Content pane?

Hi,
I am trying to organize my pose collection into categories.
I created a temp category "G8F Poses" and put all my G8F poses in there. Now I can go to the Smart Content pane, select all "standing" poses and assign them to a new category "G8F Standing".
But how can I delete those poses from the temp category, so that I have only the non-standing poses left? That would make it a lot easier to go through the temp category and find the "sitting" poses etc.
Categorize those, delete from the temp category and move on.
It looks like the references in a custom category can only be deleted from the Content Library. I was able to add a tag to all "standing" poses I had selected by using the DB Editor.
But when I try to filter the temp category that still has all poses in the Content Library using this tag, it doesn't work. I put "selectedposes" in the Content Library search field and get all those poses in Search Results, but I only want to delete the references from within my temp category as a means to organize them.
Did I confuse everyone, or can you guys follow what I'm trying to do?
Smart Content allows me to look at all G8F pose thumbnails at once in order to classify different poses, but it doesn't allow me to delete any classified references from that category.
Content Library on the other hand let's me manually delete those references, but it doesn't seem to let me filter and delete poses from a specific category that have been classified already.
Any idea on how to get this to work? Or another super simple way to organize an extensive pose collection? :)
Thanks!

If you right-click on the things you wish to "delete" in Smart Content and select Categorise then the dialogue will open showing you, by the colour and style of type, when the items are placed - you can remove them from the unwanted categories by unchecking the category in the list, then clicking Accept (at which point the active category will update, but you may need to Refresh (right-click) for others). That should, I think, do what you want even though it isn't labelled Delete.

Yes - you are a Godsend Richard!
Selecting a new category and deselecting the asstes from the old one leaves me with just the still unclassified assets.
Exactly what I was looking for. Not sure how I've missed this workflow.. :)
Thanks again!
Thank Rob, I just passed it on.
Then - thank you Rob as well!
I'm off to the races now, organizing my pose collections. At long last.
