Dforce : what am I doing wrong?
So, I have troubles getting good results with dforce. For instance, with Sicckleyield dforce roman clothing : https://www.daz3d.com/sy-dforce-roman-clothing-pack-genesis-8-female , it looks more like a poorly fitted sack with pokes (see attached picture).
What am I likely to be doing wrong?

Did your simulation start from the zero pose?
If it's what you mean, "Start bones from memorized pose" was set to "Off".
Or if what you ask is whether the character was in the "standard" pose (arms extended), no, it wasn't. I would assume that I should run the simulation with the character in roughly the pose it will eventually have, or else the clothing won't fit properly when I'll change the position, no?
The simulation may have problems if you start from a pose, as the rigging may allow parts to cross over. It's best to start from the memorised zero pose, or at least a pose that you are sure doesn't cause self-ntersection or intersection with other collision targets (anything that doesn't have Visible in Simulation set to Off).
Yeah turn it back ON and it will start at the T pose and slowly move to the final pose whist draping, That is what Richard is getting at in his last comment.
Thank you both. I had read somewhere that it was better to turn it to "off". I'll try again with this new setting.
While it's rendering, I'll add some more questions :
-With this setting, the simulation takes vastly more time while "simulating animation". Is that normal? Is that avoidable?
-The character left the frame. Which is annoying, first because I would like to see the progression, but also because sometimes I stop the simulation before it finishes. For instance, I did that recently to prevent hair from hiding the face of a figure. Is there a way to center on the character while the simulation is in progress?
-Not a problem, but it intrigues me : when the simulation starts, some elements of the scene dissapear (not connected to or touching either the clothing or the figure). Then they reappear at another place during the simulation, and move around to reach their final position. Not things connected to either the clothing or the figure, just random props. At first I thought that maybe the simulation applied to them too for some reason, but in fact it doens't seem so since one of them is above ground level and should "fall" if it were the case. Why is that?
Well, the result isn't really different, after changing the setting (see attached file). Is there something else I could try to do, or should I assume that this is the result I should expect with this piece of clothing?

I've had similar results with other dforce clothes as well. Try playing with the smoothing, it will help.
Everything will go to its memorised pose position, at least if it doesn't ahve Visible in Simulation off. All items are treated as dForce items: Static Surface (i.e. collision objects that don't deform), you need to to apply that only if you want them to have non-default values (for example, to adjust friction).
My own two cents that I noticed is that sometimes Hair can impeded a good dForce simulation. If the hair is on or close to the collar, I like to hide it during Simuation.

I've been dealing with a problem simulating SY dForce Roman Clothing for Geneis 8 Female with a character who has the GeeGee Hair (a great Roman looking hair IMHO). Two spots/poke throughs in the clothing were always apearing near the shoulder blades and I couldn't figure out for the life of me why they were appearing or how to correct it. The Forumn search function isn't always the best but it led me to this thread and the solution of hiding the hair during simulation did the trick. The spots/poke throughs were occuring where the hair touches the character around the shoulder-blades. So, thank you very much. Your post made my day and turned a frustrated dForce simulator into a happy one.
