How to restore surface properties after making changes? (Besides undo)

kavkav Posts: 23

When I first import a model into Daz, it's surface properties have a "Lighting Model" setting in the edit tab. Under the edit tab there's a subheading that says Shader: Daz Studio Default.

I have a model that I've imported and positioned in my scene. I changed the surface preset to another material and noticed that the "Lighting Model" property went away. I guess it doesn't exist within every surface preset. That's fine, but having that property actually produced my best render so far, so I want to get it back. I can't seem to find what material preset has this property though. I've applied each available preset and tabbed over to edit and checked the properties but I can't seem to get it back in my edit pannel.

I also went to the Shader Mixer Pane and clicked apply on the default material, but the "Lighting Model" property still isn't turning up in my edit tab of the surfaces panel, or on my model. The subheading under the edit tab now says Shader: Daz Default Material. The other one was called Daz Studio Default. Does any one have any suggestions about how to get the Daz Studio Default material back? I'm new here and am still trying to find my way around.

I've made way too many edits to my scene to undo all the way back to the original surface of this one model.

Right now it seems like my only option is to delete the model, reimport it, rescale it, and reposition it. That's a huge hassle. Is there an easier way to restore the surface to the Daz Studio Default or another material that brings back the "Lighting Model" property?

Thanks!!

The lighting model is included in the dzDefault shader, which is  for the 3Delight renderer. The shader can be found in your content library/shader presets/DS defaults. You apply the shader to your object by selecting it in the scene tab, then going to the surface pane and selecting all the surfaces you want to apply the shader to, then double clicking the shader preset. To keep the maps when applying the shader, hold down control while clicking, this brings up a dialoge, choose ignore!

I'm not an expert, but I usually make a backup with "Scene Optimizer", so that then I can restore maps and textures!

@Sven Dullah thank you! I'm so glad I asked! This pannel opens up a whole new world that I wouldn't have known about. I kept browsing by the content library and nothing showed up and I just figured it would populate if I had a relevant scene item selected. I just took the tutorial on the content library thanks to your pointers.

@kameneko I will look into that as a future safe guard. Thank you!

You're welcome, that's a really nice tool to have, especially if you find yourself with too little VRAM from time to time! :D
