What? Where's my content?
Last year ...just about a year ago, actually, I lost my desktop to the dread 'power surge' (despite being on a UPS). The laptop I've been using doesn't really have the oomph for rendering (nor the harddrive space for my content!) so I've not been using any of it.
Finally got a new desktop with terabytes of storage, figured I was going to do everything through the install manager. Let it install Studio, let it download and install my closing-on-5000-products library...
and I open up Daz Studio and see no smart content. Not one product, not even base Genesis. It's looking in the same folder that Install Manager is looking in.
Which might mean I'm missing something really obvious because it's been a year since I touched anything Daz related... but it also probably means the install manager is not working 'right'; I didn't change any directory settings, and if we're going to have an install manager, it should 'just work'.
When I re-import metadata, it sees a bunch of things and runs through them, but nothing appears. Install manager claims everything's installed. I specifically looked up the Genesis Starter Bundle because that should be working, right? Right? Says it's installed! (But I have no smart content.)
What?
I can still find the content in the non-smart-content library, so Daz is looking at the right folders. But even if I place a Genesis figure and select it, still no smart content.

It sounds like the Content Management Service isn't running. Smart Content relies on it, but the Content Library doesn't, which is why you can see your content there.
You should have a shortcut in your Start menu to start the service:
Looks like HastyDave is right, your directories are mapped correctly, but CMS isn't running. Try starting CMS to see if that fixes the problem. You can also locate your Content through the Content Library Pane. The Content Library Pane allows you to browse through the actual folder structure on your hard drive and doesn't require CMS.
If starting CMS doesn't work you may have a corrupt database. Tech support can offer troubleshooting to help you get that sorted out.
Yep, there we go. It's not running...
But it won't start, throws an error message when I launch it from the services panel and does nothing when I use the shortcuts.
Reinstalling DIM doesn't seem to help either.
Contact tech support through our Zendesk page helpdaz.zendesk.com they will be able to help you get CMS up and running. In the meantime you can load your content through the Content Library Pane. It may be less convenient, but it will get the job done until you get CMS running.
