problem while copy/pasting Iray shaders

Hi, I have problem while copy/pasting Iray shaders.

DS 4.10.0.123

I made a geografted part on G8F torso. Part's UVs matches V8s corresponding mesh. part's and V8's surfaces are Iray-Uber shaders. If I copy torso surface and paste it to my part's surface every thing seems good in the viewport and 3DLight render but with NVIDIA Iray part renders as if it was overexposed. When I check individual proprties of each surface they are absolutely identical.
Any idea what I 'missed ?
thanks in advance.
Bernard

  • Do you have a screen shot of settings? Are you sure all settings are identical? In the past I have had issues where I am copying from a surface where some limits have been turned off. Pasting won't turn off limits, will just set them as high or low as they can go.

    What AlmightyQuest said.

Copy and paste works correctly; this is providing it's from and too the same shader and limits are off; in addition, it should be compatable character or item. If not, then copy and paste individual surfaces.

UV issues could also cause a problem.

    Thank you for your help,

Trying to apply your advice I finally found the problem. Curiously the state of the Thin walled property does not copy, it remains ON even if the source is OFF.

This bug still exists with DS 4.11, and probably with DS 4.12 too.

The Thin Walled property for Iray Uber Base shaders does not copy over for Genesis 8.  I think this only happens under certain circumstances when using non-Pro characters.  So, testers shouldn't be using Pro characters to see if this copy bug is fixed or not.

And yes, the two surfaces are identical Iray Uber Base shaders.  Thin Walled is a boolean On/Off property, so this has nothing to do with limits either.

  • quick suggestion for OP's issue.

Whenever troubleshooting material issues like this, select both materials, click the first then hold ctrl button and click second, and scan through for "?"(dialed settings) or "multiple"(for on/off options).

Then select what you are coming from to see what the difference is to what you are going to.

I run into this a bit more when PAs turn off "limits" on settings than anything else.

    - The character is not part of a Pro bundle.  Anatomy parts are not included with Pro bundles.
    - Or adding anatomy parts to a character that didn't have them originally installed.

That first part is an interesting supposition. I would wonder, though, what the difference, in your opinion, is between a pro bundle character and a non-pro bundle, besides UV maps?

AFAIK, anatomical elements are included in every pro bundle.

The second part of your supposition is just baffling.

Almost, every anatomical element is an add-on created after the release of the initial figure, so couldn't be "originally installed" as they didn't exist at the time of initial development/release.

I would be interested in a bit more elaboration on this point though.

That was just a wild guess on my part.  I will strike it out for now until I find more proof.

But, I do think it's a program bug, and not specifically related to any Genesis generation or character. Maybe it has to do something with geografts, I don't know.

It might be the result of a bad .duf file that gets loaded into memory, but doesn't appear until you try to copy surface properties.  I wish there was a .duf validation tool you could run and check out multiple files at once.  Oh well.

    oh, ok.

I was just wondering as i've only encountered this issue with one product and it was quite awhile back, g2 or g3, and i think that was related to a scripting issue with the material copy script or a materials preset issue, but not related to copy/pasting materials.

Can't think of a time i've encountered it with G8F and the various and sundry geographs i use daily.

ah well, something to pay more attention to.

Have you checked the gamma settings for the image with the Image Editor option?

Nope, but no worries, I know how to fix it if it ever pops up again. Thanks.
