Update Merge Menus removes all custom actions from the Scripts tab

I wasn't seeing the dForce options in Edit/Figure/Geometry. Read in the forums to run Update Merge Menus from Workspace pane. Worked. Got the dForce options in Edit.

But, it eliminated all the custom actions I had in Scripts. The custom actions remain in the Customization Pane, and in the tool bar where I put them for quick access. Just not in Scripts in Main Menu. The size of the custom actions file in User appdata remains unchanged, so I know they're all still there, but 4.10.0.123 doesn't access them once Update Merge Menus has run. That's a bug. Update doesn't mean overwrite or erase. And it doesn't mean update some menus and remove other menus. I'm fairly sure about that. Actually, I'm certain about it.

I can restore my Custom workspace, and get the Custom Actions back in Scripts, but I lose the dForce options in Edit.

Doesn't make sense that this should be an either/or situation. Does anyone know where the scripts tab gets its list from, so I can move it manually? Or any other fix that a user can do?

UPDATE: Just to add a little zest to the annoyance factor, I went ahead and ran Update Merge Menus again, and manually added my Custom Actions to Main Menu/Scripts via the Customization Pane.

Added 23 custom actions, Apply, Accept. then looked at Main Menu/Scripts and only 7 of my actions are there. Back to Customization Pane, Main Menu/Scripts... all the actions I added still show up in the list, they just don't show up in Main Menu. Or... er... some of them do... just not all.

So, a Customization pane bug ? I can't help wondering if it has anything to do with the apparently ongoing Visual Menus debacle.

Still open to a fix if anyone knows how.

  • It's not a bug per se - the older versions of DS didn't mark which additions were made by the user, and so Update and merge menus stripped them out - now that you have done that, if you restore the menus as you want (in Edit>Customise - but you have to add them to the Scripts menu, by dragging from the left into menus>Main menus>Scripts) you should find that your menus endure through running the command in future.

    Thanks, Richard,

I don't follow. I'm running 4.10.0.123, before that 4.10.0 107, etc., newer versions, and some of my custom actions are quite recent, less than a week. And, I can't find Edit>Customize.

As I mention in the post update above, what I have tried is Workspace>Customize, and as you say drag the actions over to the right Main Menu>Scripts. That part works fine. Apply, Accept, but when I look at the actual Main menu>Scripts, most of the actions I've added aren't showing up under that tab. Still there in Customization Pane, just not in the actual UI menu. It did add a few, just not all. Tried that several times, deleting actions and re-adding them. No go.

    That's not a bug?

I can try again, post results.

Added screenshots. I didn't re-add all the items I want there, but you can see comparing the Scripts drop down with the Customization Pane list under Scripts, that the drop down is missing a lot of entries that should be there, about a dozen are not showing up. No idea why.

Going through Workspace>Customization is the only way I know to access the Customization Pane, but it's not working. Is there another way to get there?

Tried again. Deleted all right side entries. Re-added about twenty, hit accept. Scripts drop down showed only two items.

Back to Customization, found spaces added between some entries that I hadn't put there, but all entries still there. Deleted them, added about twenty, hit apply & accept. Scripts drop down showed all entries, but one was missing the thumb, and also several that are in my Custom folder, but that I hadn't dragged right to Main Menu>Scripts ! I'm quite sure about that.

Customization pane has some real problems. Where is it getting it's info from?

It is interesting that Visual Menus big problem area also involves the Customization Pane. A cross over bug?

Open to suggestions. At present, I can have dForce options, or Scripts, but not both. That's not right. I may try an uninstall/reinstall of Studio...

Your list is clipped at twelve items, maybe there's a limit now? Have you tried making sub-menus? When customizing the Scripts menu, right-click and select Add Submenu... You can then move, say, all your lights into one, another for converters, etc., any way you like.

  • Sorry, it's been a while since I wrote Edit>Customise instead of Window>Workspace>Customise.

Are you sure the custom actions that are not appearing still have the correct paths for the scripts they refer to?
