Nvidia Driver Issue

Hi all.
Over the weekend, I updated the drivers for my video cards. I have two 1080's. There is now an immediate and pressing issue with performance. Before. I could render just fine and open and run other applicatoins without issue. Now, after the update, ANY other applicatoin takes about 20 to 15 seconds to respond on the monitor. This has to be some kind of display setting but I cant figure out what it is. ... So as I type this I'm rendering... if I need to backspace, it's a 10 second wait in between each character. ... this is just in a browser. I used to be able to actually open a whole different session of Daz and work in other scenes (poses etc. without issue or lag. I've re-installed twice, then used a driver cleaner to scrub the registry, then re-installed again. It's like going back to Windows 3.1 or something. I can use my computer for everything else or Render.... and if I'm rendering now.. can't do anything. it's nuts.
Anyone got any ideas?

It sounds like the same card is being used to driver your monitor as well as render with and, having had that myself, I understand the frustration! It wasn't a driver update issue with me, just plain case of the stoopids, but it'd be worth checking, perhaps?
Something else is going on. I drive two monitors with a 980 TI and can run other programs, surf the web etc w/o lag.
I7-4780k,32GB RAM, 980TI.
The newest driver 418.81 caused my GTX 1070 to crash twice today. Once while I ran Daz with the preview GPU render viewer on and the other time was when I was on youtube watching a video and opening up another browsers webpage. I can't even roll back on this driver and NVIDIA'S page does not allow you to roll back the driver, I installed it without thinking at lunch today when the notification popped up.
Now I wish I hadn't. :(
OK... so here's what I did to fix... which is really just a rollback.
Since NVIDIA doesn't provide legacy drivers on their own site that I could find I went here and downloaded the previous version(s). Your driver might be different so look around the site if you have a different need.

Next you'll want to download Display Driver Uninstaller. This will clean the registry remove all drivers and leave you with the ability to do a fresh clean install of whatever version you want

Everything's back to normal now for me.
I had same problem.So I downloaded 417.71 ver.
I choose custom install then check clean install.
works perfect ! Thank you!
ALso latest update seemst to use your CPU along with GPU even if you have deselected from using GPU. Nvidia is working on it as i understand as many VR gamers complained it seems.
It seems to use CPU instead of GPU no matter what for me.
I continue to be surprised that people update to the lateset video driver for no other reason that it is the latest. History has shown this to be a risky choice.
I'm a gamer more than a 3d artist. Games frequently only work with the latest driver. Staying up to date is pretty SOP for gamers.
Thanks Lancel, that seems to have resolved it for now (knock on wood). :)
NVIDIA has released a driver update (418.91)
Same issues being reported with it. stick with older drivers.
Being new to PCs after half a life time of MACs there much to learn...Like the curse of automatic driver updates and PCs, that leave your spiffy 2 week old computer/GPU kneecapped. Gonna firgure out how to shut down "auto updates" when I get home tonite and end this garbage asap.
