Lightsaber Light Effect Help

Ok so I have been trying to figure out how to make the lightsaber effect on this prop.  I was trying to follow a tutorial and for some reason I can NOT get it to work when it renders.  It just does a glow around the base but not the whole saber.  I'll link a picture of the prop.

  • Is there a mesh for the blade? Does the tutorial you are following match the render engine you are using (Iray or 3Delight)?

Do you mean an obj file?  And I dont know about the render engine. I'll have to check on that.

We may need to see the surface settings on the blade as well. From your description it sounds like maybe you only have emission turned on which would create a blue glow (reflected on the emitter on the hilt), but you wouldn't really see the blade. You would need some other surface settings to show the whole blade.

  • Ok so the prop is Iray or Octane ready.  Do you guys need me to post a screenshot of the settings or anything of the prop?

Hmmm....is it the light saber from Aeon Soul on DA? If so, it does glow when rendered in Iray, see the attached image (I can't help with 3Delight).

If it is the same light saber, I can get you the settings for Iray later (away from my computer right now). note that you also need to have the Bloom Filter enabled in Iray to get the glow effect around the light emitter (light part of the saber). IIRC there are two materials that you need to adjust, one near the handle, and another for the saber..

yes..><.  Lol.  It is the one from Aeon Soul cause it works for G3.  If you can that would be great cause I'm like so getting frustrated on why I can't get these settings to work right.

  • Yeah its still not putting the light on the lightsaber itself. I have no idea how to fix this.
