Turn Off Viewport Highlighting?

Is there any way to do this?

You're looking at the Viewport.  You move your mouse over the Viewport and all kinds of things highlight in yellow.  Is there a method for toggling that yellow highlighting off?

In the Draw Settings pane set Highlight Style to Bounding Box Only.

And um, another question.... 

If you select a node in a character, the Scene tab expands the node tree for that character, revealing many nodes.   Can this expansion process in the Scene tab be toggled on/off? 

I'm selecting nodes in PowerPose and the Viewport, and would prefer the Scene tab just show major objects, unless I deliberately expand the node tree.

What is your Node Selection Mode in the Tool Settings pane? If I use one of the Rot Node options then it does not expand the Scene hierarchy on the first click.
