Ball Jointed Doll for Genesis Question

Are there any required items for this? I note the what's included section mentions

The Ball Joint Doll for Genesis comes with these options:

Conformers and Morphs:
Male morph preset based on Hiro 5 and Justin
Female morph preset based on Julie, Hitomi and Aiko 5

Do you need these items to make it work?

I don't think so. I think that if you want to use the included shape presets you will need those shapes I haven't tried and I have all those shapes so it can be difficult to tell. The balls are conforming figures I applied them and the texture to a base genesis and they worked fine.
This is a really incredibly well done product the joints take morphs very well, I haven't had that much of a chance to play with it but I am very impressed so far; its quite beautifully done.

The Textures are based on V4's UV's.

It really looks awesome, just wish It had Poser Companion Files, I'd snap it up in a heart beat.

For the OP: You need those items if you want to use the male and female dialed characters it comes with. You don't need it to use the ball joints or the textures; they will apply to any character that you create with your own dials.

Fuse and I are able to create unique items with special features largely because of features unique to DAZ Studio. As such, we do not (and often cannot) support Poser.

I'm amazed at how well this handles some of the more extreme morphs I tried with the Gorilla, Minotaur, Freak, Anubis and a few others, all of them worked well.

A ball joint is used for allowing free movement in two planes at the same time

Yes, the ball joints are part of how the doll is constructed. It has nothing else to do with other kinds of balls. ;)

Actually there are quite a few companies that sell ball jointed dolls. It's another very expensive hobby

That's right.:). In the USA you can buy some cheaper bjds off the shelf, too, such as the Monster High dolls. They are not as durable or quality but are much cheaper and still customizable in some ways.

Brilliant creation you and your sis came up with. I like seeing creepy renders with the old ball joint doll so now Genesis can be ultra creepy too! lol

PS: Thanks for supporting Genesis 01, that's the one I'm getting. Hopefully when Genesis 02 Male hits you will do a version for him too!

Sorry for the question on the eyebrow piece, especially as the other renders don't seem to be having this problem :red:

When I add it to the figure it conforms but is crumpled (lower pic) and this affects the eyebrow texture (upper pic). Applying it to the scene and not parenting it to Genesis solves the problem but fitting it is a major PITA and not something I want to do, frankly :-S

Is there a workaround to this issue? I'm pretty sure I'm doing it wrong and would be grateful for any help or advice :)

Redownload and reinstall it? It looks like you're having an issue that was eliminated in an earlier version.

EDIT: Oh, wait. Do you have the latest version of Justin? If that's our dial morph, which uses him, you may be getting an eyebrow/eyelash error that the last update of him fixed.

This is what it's supposed to look like.

Curses all tapped out at the moment saving for Christmas, but this one is in my wishlist for the end of the month. I'm loving the renders, it looks like a very versatile character (not to mention great for all kinds of 'Child's Play' scenes!). What would Halloween be without a scary doll or two?

    What indeed. :-)

There's always another sale. I mean you know the latest you could possibly have to wait is March.

I may be confused but on the product page, it says DSON installer included. Doesn't that mean it's supposed to work in Poser?

OK - I was having a DUH! moment and forgot that Genesis morphs aren't something you load, you just dial them in. So I loaded up Genesis in Poser and sure enough, there's the Ball Joint morph under Actor/Universal/Stylized/Ball Joint Doll. But all that does is squish the joints. I tried saving the BallJoints.duf using the Create Poser Companion Files action but nothing seems to happen. It can't save it as a cr2, didn't have any affect when I specified to save it as pp2. When I let it decide for me, I got a message back saying it was an unsupported type. I'm not that proficient in DAZ Studio and I'm still using DS4.5. Any suggestions?

No. DAZ calls the main DS files the "DSON Core Files." This set does not support and does not work in Poser. Products that actually do work in Poser also have a "Poser CF files" zip. The fact that it says "installer" at all is outdated, and I don't know why they still call it that - they don't actually issue products as .exe installers now and haven't for some time.

DSON is the format used by DAZ Studio 4 files. The DSON Importer for Poser imports files in that format, given companion files (or using the Dimension3D script to browse for files, though without companion files they won't have native materials and may not work at all).

Ok I think I am getting confused about the morphs thing. I understand that the product nixes the joints and add balls, I understand it takes V4 uv's, I have Justin and Julie but not installed, I do not have Hiro or Aiko 5, so this means I can't use the preset morphs that come with the package. What I am not understanding clearly is using other morphs. I have morphs for Genesis, none of them are the Gen4 or Gen5, except for Justin and Julie, Can I use these other morphs people have created for Genesis. Oh and I have Genesis1 not 2.

Yes, you can use other people's morphs. There are lots of pictures in this thread of people doing just that. ;)

Mixing and matching the morphs with this product is the same as mixing and matching them with any other product. If you wish to turn the morph on or off without using the preset morphs you can find dials for the head and body shapes in the parameters tab. The ball joints morph just pinches the joints inward so they don't clip with the ball joints. The ball joints themselves are not added with a morph, they are a separate conforming piece found in the following folder: Genesis/Characters/Sicklefuse/BallJointDoll.

    I hope that helps!
