It's something that I've been wanting to play with, to create god rays and the like. Is such a thing even possible in Daz Studio? And if so, how would I go about doing it? Thanks for any help that you can give.

The easiest method is using the volume camera from this http://www.daz3d.com/atmospheric-effects-cameras-for-daz-studio with a spotlight.
The atmospheric cameras mentioned are a good start.
If you are looking for something specific, you may need to start learning Shader mixer and build your own.
Just remember to always be looking through the camera with the effect you want, or it won't be visible in the render.
(wonder how many of us had to figure that one out the hard way?)
You can begin with Uber volume. You should have it in My Library\Shader Presets\omnifreaker\UberVolume
No mess with camera
While ubervolume is good the only problem with it is making sure where the camera is in regards to the ubervolume cone can be a hassle at times.. The product mentioned above is very good as it does not have those limitations of camera position..
I just remembered, Sickleyield has a cone method of getting godrays that she put out for free @ sharecg.
