Changing skin color
Hello All,
I am creating an female alien character and I am using Eva 8 as the base. I think what I have come up with is good, but I want to change her skin color, but still retain any skin details and imperfections. I would like to go with a gentle bluish grey color for her skin. Could someone tell me how to do this? I know it involves the surfaces tab, but there are a plethora of settings there and I don't want to disturb them too much wihtout knowing what they do.
Thanks
Geo

2nd and 3rd post there should answer your question.
I have Skin Builder 8 if that is similar, but it builds a whole skin and I just need change a color.
I am in the Surface editor now and playing around with those three color controls: Base Color, Translucency Color and Transmission Color. It took a while.to figure the three out, but I think I got it! I am just waiting for the render to complete. I will report back later.
Thanks
Watch out for the grouchy people in that thread though, um, I mean, grouchy person.
I took a peek there, saw the grouchy interaction there, but came away with some i Dr a of what to do. I played around with those three color settings and got quite close.to what I wanted but the skin was too dark. I tried to back but things went wrong. I tried to go back to the original base color and when I remove tthe clothing on my character, her toes were like..ripped off! Not cut off, but the tip.sections were gone! That was in my base for the character too. Woo with the skin not right and the problem with the toes, she was basically ruined. Luckily I was ablee to save her morph settings and wardrobe settings an d then I loaded up a new instance of the base character and load the saved presets and finally i had my alien female back! So I kept that one as a base, made a copy and instead of fiddling with the Surface settings, I just did what I should have done i n the first place...use Skin Builder. Not only did I get.the color and lightness setting the first try, but I was able to add skin variations (discoloration) and also a hint of some freckles. The result is 5 times more realistic looking. Also, I did her makeup in Skin Builder as well. The program does take its time with certain things, but it does show in the results!
Overall, I don't know what happened the first time around. something went seriously wrong. So even though I killed my whole evening redoing my character...She did come out a lot better using the Skin Builder.
I do want to learn the Surface settings though as I know that way would have been faster had i known what I was doing. But, I think for.more critical characters, I will stick with the Skin Builder.
Thanks
It will not, so far as I can see, alter the underlying skin textures. Not a very good example, but here is Mackenzie (with moles and veins), with a use of Beautiful skinn to give both a green timt and also to apply normal maps.
Well, guys, in the end I DID have success! However, it was with using Skin Builder. Attached is the bust shot of my Alien Princess. Her name is Naryssa and she is a pretty big lady standing at around 8 feet tall and then she has on heels to boot! So yeah, she's a tall one.
Using Skin Builder I got the color right off the bat. I wanted a gray with a tinge of blue in it. Unlike going manually, with skin builder I can add skin (dis) coloration, (which is what I did with Naryssa). There are also settings for aging the skin, and an option for freckles. I gave her some over her nose, but very lightly. You can see it though. There is a vein / spidervein option as well. So it does appear to be similar to the Beautiful Skin add on. In addition to adjusting skin details, I can also add eyebrows and face makeup. She originally had a different makeups scheme, but I figured while I was in Skin Builder, I redid her makeup as well. I have to say she came out FAR prettier with using the Skin Builder. Using the manual control settings in the Shaders tab, I found it was hit or miss. Either she was too blue, or too purple. I wanted more or less a slate color, which is a bluish-grey. I do want to learn to use the settings properly as there is one downside to using Skin Builder and that it is very slow. Every change, I hear my CPU chugging away at....even the small makeup changes. This is why I turned to the shader controls in the first place as I initialy just wanted a quick skin color change. But after redoing her in Skin Builder, I am now glad I did as she is much prettier now.
For her outfit I used the Psy-Dagger Outfit:

I customized that to purple, lavender, black, white and silver accents. So yeah, she is very colorful, but all the colors harmonize with ther gray/blue skin. Oh yeah, the outfit has lights on it too, which explains the glow under her chin. If you saw the full body shot, there are more glows like that on her body.
Oh! In case you are wondering, she has purple eyes with oblong (slit) type pupils.
Naryssa is my first attempt at an alien female. I think she came out amazing! She is one of the most beautiful ladies I created with Daz so far.
Thank you all for your help!
