moving Daz from C to D drive.

I just installed DAZ is there a way to move everything from my C drive to my D drive.  I did a cut and paste also changed two settings but when I did a quick render my DAZ 3D folder was back in C:\documents folder.  I used the Install Manager.  Do I have to uninstall everything and the IM and reinstall to D:?

Have you changed the default folder settings for the various resources and render outputs?

Not sure where to find them.  I will look around for them.

Start by opening Daz Install Manager (DIM), then click on the gear-wheel icon at the top right, then the 'Installation' tab. Look at image 1 as to what to select, to find how to change where things get installed.

Once that's done, you can open Studio, and press 'F2' on your keyboard, or select 'Edit', then 'Preferences' from the Studio menues. Select the 'Content' tab, then look towards the bottom of the new pane for 'Content Directory Manager'. From there, it all depends on how your directories are set up, as to what paths you choose.

  • You can also, once Install Manager is set up, download this script http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/file_io/install_manager_config_import/start and drag it into the Daz Studio Viewport to adjust its settings to match those in DIM.

  • I guess I don't understand any of this.

I wanted to do the exact same thing, and thought it would be easy enough to uninstall Daz, and DIM, and jut reinstall everything.  Uh... its a really big problem. After uninstalling (I thought) and reinstalling DIM to D:/ it STILL wanted to put everything in C:/.  What gives? How come I can't just uninstall and reinstall everything, easy peasy? Every other program on Earth does this!

I even uninstalled everything and deleted every folder that had to do with Daz, after transferring scenes and renders to D, and it still wants to cram everything into C... I pointed every possible path in DIM to D, and everything is telling me that nothing is working, or can't do it.

This is gonna be a huge pain where I'm gonna have to download scripts (which I know nothing about) go into my registry (which I know nothing about) and dig into the nightmare depths of programming (which I know nothing about), just to make sure I have room to install everything I bought (which I can't if it installs it on C:), isn't it? Why is the program set up like this? Can I just download the public beta and start all over again, or will I have to format my hard drives just to get a clean install of Daz where I want it?

oh no... I made a terrible, terrible mistake by uninstalling and assuming Daz operated like every other program I've installed on a computer since 1998... I'm going to spend days getting this sorted out, aren't I?

Then you must have never used any other program with external resources.

Every program that had an installer or launcher uninstalled all its parts and allowed a clean install, from scratch, when I've needed it to. The few that you had to ferret out only required some folders to be deleted in the documents folder, or some other place you can find easily enough.

Now, when I try to run DAZ after just trying to choose what drive I wanted, like any other program, I'm told the shortcut doesn't even work!

    Did you have any advice?

Are you trying to install the programs (DIM and DAZ Studio) to the D: drive also, or just the content?

DIM's default installation is the "Recommended DAZ Studio/Poser Content Folder", which is on the C: drive, but you can change that to something else in the Settings dialog. You can also change the default Package Archive folder, the Thumbnail folder and the Manifest Archive folder. It is not related to where DIM is installed.

DAZ Studio must be configured to look in the same place for content to which DIM installed it. It also has the same default Library folder as DIM (on the C: drive). You can use the script that Richard pointed out, or set it up manually. This is done in the Content Directory Manager. Set the same path as you did in DIM for DAZ Studio format and Poser format content. If they line up, your Content Library will be populated.

  • DIM and DS will, on a clean install, default to placing installed content on the C: drive in the Public Documents folder, and placing saved files and Connect installs (content installed within DS) in the user's Docuemnts folder wherever that may be. If you are having issues please post screen shots of the Installation tab in Install Manager's settings (the gear icon at top right) and of the Content Directory manager showing all current paths (Edit>Preferences>Content tab, click the Content Directory Manager button).

  • or you could just a symbolic link from c default daz dir pointing to it on d drive
