Reopened Scene Looks Different in Viewport
If I change the position of a character, direction of the viewport, lighting, etc., save the scene and reopen it, it looks different. I have to move the viewport around to get the same view as I had, the character may be completely out of view, sometimes the lighting looks completely different, like it got reset to the default settings or something. When I load scenes from other artists (like SickleYields benchmark scene), my scenes look exactly like theirs, so I'm sure there's something obvious I'm missing -- what is it?

Perspective View is not saved (nor are its chnages tracked for Undo). If you want a viewpoint to be rmembered you need to use an actual camera - you can create one at the curent viewpoint, if you find one you want to keep, by using Create>New Camera, then clicking the More Options button to show a set of extra radio buttons and choosing the option to copy the current Perspective View.
Thanks. Any idea about the lighting?
If the headlamp was on (no scene lights, just the HDR and/or emissive surfaces) then it would chnage as the viewpoint changed.
Always use a Camera to saved scenes if you want your scene as you left it
Yeah. For example if I set something up I might save it with a filename such as "farm scene lower forty Feb 2019". And then I'd save the camera angle with a name like "farm scene Feb 2019 CAMERA RESET". This way, if I am messing around with the scene at any point in the future -- for example I might want to zoom in on a character to adjust the eyes -- I can get back to where I was by going to File > Merge > and I'll click on the name of the file that brings back the desired camera position.
