V4 stopped smiling

DorseylandDorseyland Posts: 724

I'm suddenly loading V4.2 (in DAZ 3) and when the head is selected, her mouth parameters are missing. There's nothing below "Cheeks Balloon Pucker" -- no smiles, no open mouth, no pucker.

I can load saved V4 characters and they have these parameters intact, but can no longer get a fresh start on V4 from her own folder. Tried injecting Morphs+ but nothing changed.

Any ideas what's gone wrong?

Those morphs are actually part of the base V4 morphs, not the morphs++

Yes, Cho, I was just grasping at straws thinking the Morphs+ might help. But I can't find a folder full of Inject morphs for the V4 base expressions like they have with Generation 3 figures. I'm just trying to avoid reloading V4 from scratch and the chaos that might cause.

Well I know where it is in Poser, but not in DS. I will see if I can find someone who does know.

Are you using Powerloader, and is everything "checked there" in V4 Base & V4 Morphs++?
Have you tried to load those morph sets manually?

It's been so long since I put V4 into my runtime that I can't remember if it's powerloading or not. She loads automatically as Base or with Morphs+ depending on my selection. Is there a way to check the settings?

And as for loading the morph sets manually, that's the other part of my question -- where are they (supposed to be)?

    Thanks, Cho and Totte.

I think you can right-click V4 and get a "show Powerloader" even in DS3. I always have it visible to I can tick on and off things I need and wont need.

Erm, right-click on V4 where? In the Viewport that selects a body part, in the Content list it offers to remove the figure, and in the Character directory I'm getting no such option.

I did find an icon for loading V4 Base morphs, but it's not adding anything to what I already have. Still don't know where the actual morphs are hiding.

Well, I have located a cache of morphs, including a Powerloader icon in the V4 folder in DAZ People. Clicking on that launched a hunt for an InjDelta .pz2 for Girl4, which was in the !DAZ folder and V4 subfolder.

Unfortunately it made no difference at all, and nor did the "InjDeltas.V4BaseAll" icon.

Viewport (I don't have DS3 anymore but I think it worked the same...

Okay, thanks Totte. Found that by right-clicking on the head and the Power Loader shows all the missing head morphs checked.

But it didn't inject any of them. A4 and S4 refusing to help.

Are you loading using the original Victoria 4.2.cr2, or using a saved scene?

I'm missing the lower face morphs when I load Victoria 4.2 as is from the cr2 and also with the Morphs++ pre-loaded, Mike. If I load a V2 saved as a scene in character BEFORE this glitch appeared, she's got all the morphs.

Stupid question, but as you did not mention it: did you inject the "INJ Base V4" (same folder as the INJ Morphs ++)?

Yes, Kerya, once I found it! When that didn't work, I tried clicking on every Inject icon I had, selecting body and then head, checking the head parameters after every click. Many of them looked to have quite promising results -- but none of them added anything.

Also tried closing and reopening DS3 and starting the Inject process from scratch. I'm no further ahead, but ready to reluctantly reach for the original V4.2 loader or zip or whatever it was. Just hope I still have it.

    OK, ast hope:
Go to your Runtime/Libraries/!DAZ and run (double click on) the DazCreateExPFiles-V4.bat
    then inject the morphs ...

Else you have to redownload from your product library

"Last hope" failed me too, but I appreciate you trying and the fast link to the re-download, which I'm attempting right now in another tab.

Does the Install Manager "download and install" usually take forever without telling you its progress??

Gave up on the Install Manager download and just went with manual. V4.2 now reinstalled WITH ALL THE BASE MORPHS.

    Hooray, as they say.

Thanks very much to everybody who chipped in. Wish I knew what caused the glitch (and hope it doesn't happen again). Unfortunately this time it came down to ...

PROBLEM SOLVED BY GOING BACK TO SQUARE ONE.

Awww, man! I HAD to say hope it doesn't happen again. Reloaded V4 again and she's missing the same morphs.

    PROBLEM NOT SOLVED.

Where is your content located, and what Operating System?

We seem to be talking from opposite ends of the day, Mike!

I'm on Windows 7 32-bit. The Content folder has never moved from the original DAZ3 folder, and the Character, People and !DAZ folders are all in their original places.

I did create a separate V4 folder outside of DAZ People, but the reinstalls are all going into DAZ People and, except for that one brief load-up, she's still not showing the lower face morphs.

Is the content in Program Files?

Yes, DAZ and all the content are in Program Files,

You're probably running up against Win7's protection of the Program Files folder, so the files that are supposed to be there when you initialize aren't really where they appear to be.

Do you mean Windows has blocked them altogether or cached them someplace else?

Strictly speaking, it's placing them in c:\Users\You\Local\Virtual Store\path to the folder - but I would never the less urge you to move your content location outside of Program Files rather than trying to fix it on an ad hoc basis. This is why DS3's default location for content is in the user's Documents folder, though I agree that's not ideal.

Well, I'll have a sniff around soon as I can get back to this tonight. But why would there be a sudden change in the way V4 was loading. Are there figure characters that when newly introduced into Runtime can permanently screw up the poor woman's jaw like that?

    Thanks, Richard and Mike.

If you copied over the content folder from Windows XP, the existing files would continue to work until something triggered Win7 to protect the files, like adding a new morph set.

For what it's worth, I noticed a similar experience today. I'm not sure when it was triggered, especially after the last few weeks of sales and many content intstallations, but would posit that it was some time in the last 5 days. I've mainly been using Genesis or pre-saved V4's until I went in today and found most of the head-injections for V4 not working.

I re-downloaded and re-installed the V4 Base as suggested/linked above and it has worked so far - but I've not done a restart yet.
(OS is Win7 64bit with prog files on C and content on D drives.) It might have been something in the recent MS patch Tuesday as they were pretty large from memory this time around? Or one of the content files, although I'm putting my money on the former.

Sorry, brad, I'm just seeing your post now. I noticed that same hefty Windows upgrade last week but as usual I trusted MS to know what it's doing, which is of course counterintuitive.

Interesting that you have your content on D drive as recommended. At the moment -- until I get a computer with a whole lot more RAM -- I'm unable to test that to see if it gives V4 back her smile because both my C and D drives are full to the gunnels, just short of red-alert warnings.

So in the meantime it would be great to find out what exactly MS did that's made Victoria a mime.

No worries, Dorseyland... although to be honest I'm leaning more to it being your original theory of happening from other content installed - especially since it has been a hefty month or two suffering from content aquisition syndrome. I'm also thinking that if it was a Windows update we might be seeing more users popping in here asking about the issue.

It hasn't happened again and V4, M4, Gen all have their smiles again so without knowing exactly where to go with this I'm putting it down to pre-halloween gremlins. (I know I could look in the DS log files and dig through them, but there's just too much new content to play with!)
