How to create texture maps for obj?

I downloaded a obj file for a dress but there was no maps. How to I create maps so I can customize the separate parts of the garment like Back, front ... etc with graphics.

If the OBJ  has been uv mapped  than this little free app can create UV maps for you to use as templates
