Linda Hair and GPU failed - iRay GTX 1080

Hi All,

This is a simple one - loaded Linda Hair for G3F from OOT in the scene and iRAY falls back to CPU:

Using latest drivers from nvidia, previous ones had the same issue.

The annoying bit is that any other file loaded will also use the CPU. and only restarting Daz will fix the problem of iRay ignoring my GTX 1080

Ive made sure that CPU is unchecked, and optix on and off. Still getting this issue.

Any tips? I really like the hair from OOT and dont want to get other hair and suffer the same fate.

What version of graphics card driver are you using. It is a known issue that anything over 417.71 falls back to CPU. There are a bunch of threads in the forum about that problem. Nvidia is aware and working to fix it.

But this happens only with OOT's Linda hair though, everything else is fine

Well, I can't explain that! Edit: unless you have a driver so new it has a fix, and Linda hair is so memory intensive it won't fit in your 1080.

You should at least roll your Nvidia driver back. I NEVER use the latest Nvidia driver anymore (5+ years). Except for generational changes, driver updates are for game specific reasons and won't impact rendering.

Still, if it's not the driver, you hace something else going on. I've attached an 80% render of Linday Ponytail on G8F. Used 3356MB on my GTX980TI. It's not the hair.

Thanks, which driver version are you using? 417.71?

Fastbike1 I'm with ya I'm still using driver 397.93 from May 2018 that was the last time I updated a driver.

I just checked and I'm a bit more up to date; I'm still using 398.36 from June, this is the one my computer came with loaded when I bought it last September.

Away from main pc but think I’m using either 397.93 or 398.36. I have to have a compelling reason and all the games run well enough with these.

419.17 is out and it seems to correct the GPU dropping to CPU, at least with my system; I'm using a GTX 1080... hope this helps!
