Zooming without Moving Camera

Hello.

Does anyone know if there is way to enlarge the view of the figures/objects within the viewport without changing the position of the camera? In other words I don't want to move CLOSER to an object but merely change how large it appears in the viewport. Using a normal zoom or any other camera movement changes the orientation of the figures/objects. For example if a figure is posed so that the arm is raised and I zoom in, the arm starts to appear higher than I posed it because the camera is moving closer to the figure.

I'm trying to get the most amount of fine detail in the final render as I use it as reference when making a painting.

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

Just like with a real camera it is done with the focal length.

Select the camera in the scene hierarcy and in the parameters there will be lens settings where you can change the focal length of the lens the camera is using.

  • Focal zoom will, however, affect how things look as it flattens perspective. If you want a larger image just set the render size  larger, and then use the Spot Render tool (set to go to a new window in Tool Settings) to render out the area you want in your final image.
