Daz 3D Bridge toPS texture Problem

I'm doing a Zombie scene and trying to rough up the clothing textures in Photoshop. First problem is when I launch bridge and hit preview image I just get a blank white page. If I remember correctly I should get the character image over the checkerboard background, yes?
I did then hit render to new layer and got the image in a new layer. Then I imported the texture map for the dress (there was only one map listed for the dress) and when I used the eraser tool on it, it erased the colors from the dress but left white in it's place where I want to create holes and rips and tares in the dress to show thru to the character underneath not white on top (see attached pics) I don't know if this is a problem with how the texture was created or is there a way to use the eraser tool that would leave the background color of the dress transparent? I don't know Photoshop all that well but I'm thinking there must be a way to make the background color transparent so that when I erase the foreground colors the backround color doesn't appear?

You need to make a trans map. SO the parts that you want to remain are white, and the parts that are transparent are black.

Chohole is right. Find your dress in the store and download the texture template for it. Open that in photoshop. Make a new layer and make it white. Drop the opacity on the layer so you can see the template through it. Paint your rips in Black. After you are finished, set the opacity back to 100 % and save.

Open studio and load the figure. Select the dress and select the Surfaces interface. Find the area that you made the map for and select Opacity. Click on the square on the left of the Opacity Strength and select browse. Locate your texture and load it.

The transmap issue seems to be covered, but as to the preview image button, that sucker has done all of squat for me for the last 2 years (almost) that I've been using the bridge. You're better off forgetting that button exists and just hitting 'render to new layer' (you may have to tab back to DS after hitting this to check for a dialog box).
