Inserting .obj file or Hexagon file into Daz 3D

Okay, new problem.  I got an asteroid, an .obj file, that I want to add to my scene in Daz 3D 4.10.  My problem is it's invisible and TOOOOOOOO large.  I can click on it but no rock, it stays invisible.  What am I doing wrong?  Also, I do have Hexagon 2.5 I can work with.  It Hexagon the asteroid is too large as well, but at least not invisible.  And scaling it in Hexagon has been troublesome.  If I create something in Hexagon or open a file into it, how do I put it into Daz 3D?

  • Which preset did you have selected in the DS OBJ import dialogue? Try the native DS one, 1 unit = 1cm, if it's coming out too large. Also, if it's coming in invisible, check the opacity setting for its surfaces.

  • Richard, I have no idea what you're talking about.  First, where would I find the opacity settings?  Also, I don't know anything about the presets you mentioned.  Where would I find them?

  • Oops, jumped the gun.  Just found the import settings.  Now to find the opacity settings?

  • Richard, just found the settings.  Thanks for the info.  I don't know why it loads up invisible but I got it now.

Richard, just found the settings.  Thanks for the info.  I don't know why it loads up invisible but I got it now.

It probably loads invisible because the import process doesn't know what materials to assign to it. I've done a bit of modeling myself and have this issues at times even with my own objects. I've gotten into the habit of not expecting the surface settings to be correct. So once the object is in Studio, I set the surfaces and then save it from Studio as a Prop so that I can just use that to get the correct object into my next scene.

The other possibility is worse ... that the object has a geometry issue with it that is making it so Studio can't figure out how to show it. In that case the object file itself would have to be modified to fix it. Since you have Hexagon, you might try importing it into Hex, save it once as a Hexagon file, then export it as an OBJ. That might cleanup any issues with the geometry. Maybe.
