Been offline a few months, a tad disappointed now that I'm back.
Genesis2 female?
I don't understand, why go away from the versatility of Genesis1, did all the chatter from the haters put a bug in the developers ears?
It got tiresome defending a great product, I get the feeling I hitched my horse to the wrong wagon.
Not all were displeased with that series. The only thing I might have not liked were the armpits and the base resolution other than that it was by far the best solution within DAZ Studio going. I would have thought an improved mesh would have been enough and at least the same maps(including V4) would be available. Where are all the shaping channels? why do we need a Genesis2 Male?
A lot of questions(and a little sticker shock I might add)
I can see profit margins as an excuse do to lost sales from autofit(which was great with Genesis and the iconic shapes because you could use your whole library of clothing) so you have to start all over and purchase new content, I understand that.
It's going to be a while for me to jump on the band wagon.

Yes, a lot of us feel the same way.
I thought the same thing, when I left Genesis had just come out and there was the big mess about whether the figure was the greatest thing out there or not.
When I came back online I came along with not only the extra money to invest in my 3-D hobby, but also an urge to start using Genesis more often, so I paid for my PC membership and went to buy some items, then I find out about V6 and that some of the items I wanted are for that morph addition and not for Genesis even with the morph packs that were available for so long.
Now there is this Dawn figure that the vendors are starting to create for, needless to say I am just so scatterbrained when it comes to it all that I have fallen back on using my safety nets in the Gen 4 figures.
So many new figures and characters upgrades are being released that they are starting to feel like new game systems. :)
I've seen Dawn, she's more a collaboration figure, there's at least some sharecg content available though V4 is more versatile for me at the moment(outside of Genesis1 in Daz Studio).
It was so nice to only load 1 figure out the runtime and use presets in Daz Studio, now THAT was a great idea. To bad they are steering a different direction.
;) It is almost like reminiscing about the good old days.
Dawn looked a bit like a cartoon for me at first but I have seen some really neat characters sets being created for her. Bad thing is I am looking into purchasing Miki 3, so that is going backwards, but she had some nice sets as well.
Now this Genesis 2? Maybe I am not looking at the right thing but I do not see the difference between that and Genesis with all of it's additional morph packs.
What exactly does it offer me that the other figure could not? I can make all of the outrageous creatures that I want with Genesis just as easy, Michael 5 looked great except his neck/head are was a little off to me, V5 was really nice to work with as she had more fluid bending and morphing options so why buy G2?
Honestly I love Daz, but sometimes the things that they do makes me wonder.
The only thing I remember is all the caterwalling about not being compatible with poser and being forced to use Daz Studio which makes me wonder if that was a minor factor in the decision.
I use both Poser and Studio with Daz Studio being the preferred platform due to Genesis1.
It will still be that way even with this new figure(old dog's and new trick's is an applicable metaphor)

Haven't you heard of http://www.daz3d.com/dson-importer-for-poser you can use Genesis either 1 in poser now, sorry if you knew just sounded by your post and you been away you didnt know about it.. :)
Steve
P.S I think its still free at the moment too... not sure as I purchased it a while back so it just says purchased and no price.. lol
Thank's for the link Steve, however, I already have it.
I'm on Poser 8 so it won't work.
Might get the Poser 9 upgrade later(when I can afford it) and be set up, I think even then I'd prefer Daz Studio though.
So GF2 doesn't have autofit as G1?
So GF2 doesn't have autofit as G1?
Sorry if this has been answered already :red:
I did this render using GF2 to test Zev0, ForbiddenWhispers & JSGraphics's Growing Up and Sisters Bundle and GF2's versatility in handling G1 clothes and poses. Only Cheer Sis uses all GF2 clothes and hair. The other sisters use G1 clothes and hair and all use G1 poses :cheese:
Big Sis: Aussie GIrl Outfit
Cheer Sis: Cheerleader for G2F
Goth Sis: Odd Wear
Little Sis: Prep Gear
Baby Sis: Daydream
Expressions are G2F's though; will need to get more of those %-P
Well that both sounds and looks good. Thanks! :cheese:
You're very welcome, Taozen :)
Don't buy G2. It comes free.
Don't buy G2. It comes free.
I think what was meant was buying the additional content specific to that figure, not the figure.
It was close to what I was worried about, having to buy all the legacy shapes all over to get autofit to work correctly. I tried transferring the morphs but the results were a little whacked so I will wait and purchase those as I can.
once again that will be awhile, of course by then a sale or two will hit.
Then there is this major disapointment with G2 - we had V6 months ago, but M6 has gone missing, and there's not a sign of him on the horizon. Besides the maker of clothes to M6 seem to have, with a few exceptions, got a creative block and are just releasing the same skirt-and-top over and over again. Thus the whole G2 thing feels rather stubbed and dull.
Initially I felt disappointed that DAZ had decided to split the figure base, and felt the improvements in G2F were small enough to make her unnecessary. Then I actually started making clothes and morphs to support her and G1. She is much easier to work with in some ways, and the toe and armpit/shoulder improvements are actually pretty significant. Speaking as a content creator, she is a peach to work with. One can get used to working with a definitely male or female figure with all of Studio's beautiful little tricks very easily.
I am not allowed to argue with Herakleia yet. ;)
G1 clothes fit extremely well to G2F, and in many cases the reverse is also true with the clone I've made (as usual, long skirts and highest heels need the most tweaking). Not only that but a lot of V4 clothes fit her well also (there's also a V4 clone for her). Not only THAT, but it's possible to copy morphs directly from G1 to G2F, letting old characters be kept without Gen X (although one needs to do a little work to make them work just right).
If it was purely a cynical cash-grab on DAZ's part, they've gone about it oddly, says I.
Daz is in the business of making money all cynicism aside.
I would believe most understand that, to say that wouldn't be the number one factor or at the top of the list is a bit naive.
I'm glad the new figure work's out for you and obviously a lot other PA's due to the amount of content being released for this figure.
I on the other hand think Genesis1 was and is still a great figure for as long as I can use it.

Yes, they are. And, as a PA, I can't say I'm sorry about that as long as our goals tally. I'm just saying, they tally more than I expected with the G2's. G2F is a quality figure in every way I've been able to examine. I will continue to support Genesis 1 as long as people continue to buy G1 on the dual releases; but I am personally working toward moving my long-term characters and rendering over to the new.
I have a feeling when Daz Studio 5 is released Genesis1 will probably be dropped completely to solve backward compatibility issues and content providers stop supporting it(although V4 is still a well supported figure). Hopefully that speculation wont be the case but it's beginning to look highly likely.
I'll catch up eventually as I repurchase the necessary assets for the new figure.
I'll have to agree with this as well. I had my doubts until I worked with G2F and the making the body shapes. The work I did with Gen2 and making them move without distortion knocked my work down to 1/3 of what I did with Gen1, and that was because I went crazy with the hip area. Keeping them in line with G2F... no correctives at all. That amounts to a smaller number of morphs added to the gene pool to cover the morph and the correctives to make it look good in poses. I'm sure others that are producing more items for Gen2 are finding out as well... and it's brought more vendors that didn't make anything for Gen1 to produce for Gen2.
Also considering V6 had a huge intro sales (which was larger than V4 and V5's intro sales), there is a large market of people wanting female-specific items that Gen2 covers. And I thought that was a load of bull until I released my two G2F items as a test.. and they pretty much outsold my entire gen1 catalog... one by a huge margin. But even working with G2F before the release, it was WAY easier to make gender-specific shapes and products than it was with Gen1... and that's really the reality of what's going on.
That doesn't make much sense to me -- DS continues to support legacy Poser rigging. All the technology needed to support G1 is also needed to support G2.

The all in one concept is lost with the introduction of the Genesis2 female figures Mine is merely an assumption at this point being that the base Genesis1 came with a lot of base shapes male and female(as well as ages).
Your right on that account, it probably will be supported but it seems a waste of resources to continue along those lines as long as there are separate figures.

I do agree that that there won't be many DAZ Original products for Genesis 1 coming out, although I'm sure PA's will continue to make them as long as they keep selling. This does disappoint me, as I'm still using G1 and haven't gotten anything for G2. I can see the improvements that have been made (some of which I concede seem to need the split figures), but G2 just doesn't fulfill my needs at this time. Since one of the key premises of my novels is greatly reduced sexual dimorphism, being able to take advantage of G1's capabilities is more important to me than the greater realism G2 provides.
Yes I prefer using Daz Studio also I had poser 7, but as Poser 9 went onsale a few weeks back for $29.99 I got it but have only used it twice I am so used to studio now.
I'm going to go a head a squash this right now and say that the assertion that Genesis support will be dropped from DAZ Studio 5 is ridiculous. DAZ Studio 5 isn't even announced, I honestly have no idea whether or not there will be a DS5 and when that would be available. Lets say hypothetically there was a DAZ Studio 5. Here are the reasons why what you've said makes no sense:
1. Genesis and Genesis 2 are built on the same tech - SubD, Tri-Ax weightmap, DSON file format. If DAZ Studio can read one it can read the other. We would have to go out of our way to remove Genesis support. Why would we go to the extra work?
2. We still have TONS of Genesis products in our store and they sell. Why would we remove support for a figure that still sells? That would be throwing away not only all of the money we've invested in DAZ Originals for Genesis, but also all the time and effort PA's have put into Genesis clothing, addons etc.
Those two reasons alone should set your mind at ease.
I'm sorry you have come back at a time of change. This conversation has been had so many times it's ridiculous. You can check out this thread if you want to see the reasons why we made the switch.
The best part though is you don't have to take our word for it. You can get Genesis 2 Female(s) Starter Essentials for free. Download the figure and give it a test drive. I guarantee that downloading Genesis 2 won't delete Genesis from your computer or cause it to stop working. Most people use both.
DAZ_jared, I have a question for you
But will you offer Genesis Essentials with DS for new users with new DS versions or only G2F essetials? Because those Genesis products won't sell if you won't provide the most essential platform for them to work - the base figure. There is no way to buy it (or get for free) separately in the store, so as soon as new DS won't come with Genesis Essentials, DAZ3D effectively kills the (support for the) figure.

My above post was completely hypothetical so it's pointless to even speculate further.

Thank's for your detailed answer.
I have the updated content pack with Genesis2 and I have checked it out, not saying it's at all bad(it's very similar to V5) just a little disappointed that it's a single figure, which means single morph pack's and single figure shapes that now need to be purchased to get the full benefit of the new figure(Male and Female).
I have acknowledged that Genesis1 would be supported in my previous responses so I don't see the necessity of your reply however it does answer a previous inquiry.
After perusing the board I can understand the need though with all these questions about the future springing up.
For me it isn't necessarily the figure itself, honestly I didn't see what made it any special then Genesis 1 when I tried it out, it was just that one of the big deals was Genesis was one figure that could become them all, you know kind of epic like the one ring in Lord of the Rings, but as soon as Genesis has finally gotten a good backing behind it (and some really cool content to boot) this new Genesis figure comes out and boom! The sparks are flying again.
I was hoping that it would evolve but not so soon and not in the way of a new figure but additions to the older one until the mesh is no longer hacking it and a new technology comes along and brings life to a new figure that has more to offer than just better bends, or a more realistic look, or something that Genesis had already brought to the table not so long ago.
You know what would get my attention, a figure that can read my mind and do what I want it to do without a struggle. :)
I can see the small differences in G1 and G2F but honestly this is a money maker for Daz and the PA's at this junction. Not a bad thing as they are in it to make a living. But what better way to make money than split the figures do a few tweaks to justify the changes and now you can essential charge double. It's business. But in my business right now G1 fills my needs and I see no reason to move to G2F I bought the clone so if some clothes come out for G2F that I like I can use them on G1 maybe one day G2F will be a regular in my run-time but not today.
When G2F came out I was really overwhelmed by the idea of another new figure. I barely looked at her for a couple of months. I understood why she was coming out of course. So many rabid complaints on the boards about how generic the genesis figure was. How androgynous, and how no one could make it look really male or female. It kept going on and on because some people just can't figure out how to be open minded and don't really want to try. I'm sure that had some influence on DAZ's decision. I also suspect that the fact that some content creators never really got the hang of modeling for the female (or male for that matter) figure on the base, unisex figure. I'm sure it isn't always easy to envision the way something is going to look on a girl with loads of curves based on the un-curved figure.
Eventually I did give her a go because it was time and I was surprised to find that I really liked working with her. I don't have any deep reason for that mind you. I just thought she moved a bit better and I found her more attractive out of the box. Of course I don't do much art work that calls for a unisex look so I'm not missing that factor. I can of course understand why people would. I've not gone out and bought her scads of new looks. Truth is I've mostly used older products with her just like I did with G2. I did buy a couple of hairs that had been converted to her but that was more because I didn't want to fiddle with fits if I didn't have too. And I bought a couple of pairs of shoes because shoes are so tricky.
