[Solved] M4 Critical Error while trying to load him

Hi All,
I am attempting to add Michael 4 to my scene and I am receiving a critical error that says his support folder cannot be found. Victoria works for me so I dug into her files to see how the path went and the Michael 4 Base file that I downloaded is the exact same. I went into the support folder and was able to locate his files as well. I do not know what is wrong or how to fix it; is anyone able to assist or shed some light on my problem? I have been away for 5+yrs so I am still in the process of relearning everything, so please bear with me and any confusion that might crop up. =)
Thank you!
~Bree
Edit: I probably should have mentioned that I am attempting this inside of DAZ 4.10 Pro, in case the program matters.

Sounds like M4 wasn't initialized. Try running /Runtime/Libraries/!DAZ/DzCreateExPFiles-M4.bat.
Thank you for taking the time to help. I located that file and ran it but M4, Freak 4 and Hiro 4 still pop up the same critical error and refuse to load. I manually loaded these from a zip file, not via the DIM as I got confused trying to set the DIM/library & runtime file paths up. I just tried to load Kids 4 and am getting the same error, so only Victoria & her morphs are loading correctly atm.
its to do with the order of your Poser runtimes
he needs to be in the first one added to DAZ studio if you have several
and you cannot have a duplicate of him or V4 in another one
it is actually related to power loader if I recall
if you have a duf reference to him in smart content for example he will load regardless of which runtime he is in
a few people including myself had this issue, he worked fine in Carrara and Poser and if I deleted powerloader he worked but of course you then manually had to add all his morphs, it was only last year one friend learned of the runtime order quirk.
Thank you Wendy. I will work on removing all of them then reinstall starting with Michael. Do I need to do that with just the basic Michael files, or do I need to then install Freak & Hiro before installing Victoria and her morphs?
I use both DAZ & Poser so my Gen 4 chars are all installed in a Poser runtime which is then pointed to within DAZ. I will make sure that I do not accidentally have him installed into both Studio & Poser libraries.
Your library can be shared between Poser and DAZ Studio, so no worries about installing it twice. If you use DIM, you actually can't install it twice, but you can still have multiple libraries, just make sure that the main one with M4/V4 (and K4, H4, F4, A4, G4, S4) is the first in the list for DAZ Studio. Poser won't recognize DS native files and goes straight to the Runtime(s) you specify. DS can use its own library structure and the Poser Runtime. Many products place the DS-native files in with the Poser files so that if used with DAZ Studio, the DS-native files are used, others put the DS-native files on their own in the DS folder structure. It's complicated...
You must install V4 and M4 before any of the other characters, since those two form the basis for the others (V4 for females, obviously, M4 for males, Kids4 are on their own).
Are you installing the PowerLoaders? They are used by DS only, but won't interfere with Poser, and make it easier to load sets of morphs all at once (if you have them).
no need to uninstall anything
just change the order in DAZ studio preferences
I've not found it necessary to have the Michael 4 folder be the first Poser content directory.
well a few of us had this issue with DAZ studio some years ago, Jaderail was alive so that would make it 5 years ago and it was discussed back then and one friend more recently had it happen.
it may be something to do with where DAZ studio and ones libraries are installed even but it worked
https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/253451/michael-4-support-folder-could-not-be-found
that was when my friend who had also had the issue subsequently helped another when I had forgotten what to do.
and from your comment in that thread Richard, what is actually in the runtimes may have the effect, maybe any injection files etc for the generation 4 characters affect it
Yes, a partial install found before a full install could certainly cause issues.
My problem was solved by using one of the old installers and just reinstalling him with it, which gave me the initialization option that I did not get with the manual download, I was also able to update him from there. After that, Hiro, Freak and Kids 4 all magically worked LOL.
Thank you all for your feedback and help!
