"Fundamental" Genesis 8 Products

Hello there,

After a long while I'm returning to do some rendering (had some experience with Poser back in the day), but I'm somewhat out of the loop concerning the newer stuff. So I'd like to ask, if there are any products that you feel are fundamental to your rendering, even if they are not related to the Genesis 8 figure per se. I'm mainly talking about stuff that is important across the board, like lighting and shaders, but if there's anything else you feel could be specially important, like some kind of tool, please do tell!

Thanks!

depends, what kinds of scenes are you interested in doing? What are your computer specs since Iray takes a ton of resources and some of the newest addons also take lots of resources. these answers will help narrow down the answers.

G8 head and body morphs for male and female, of course.

200+ Head Morphs - for more morph dials.

Fit Control - I find it particularly useful to use items from older generations, or to kit-bash.

V4 & M4 Clones - There's a way to auto-fit M4 and V4 items to G8 without additional products, but I find that this product handles some items better. I hear that the recently released clothing converter for M4 and V4 works even better still, but I don't own those products so I can't confirm.

    The Power Pump

    SWOLE

Hair, hair, hair... but needless to say, it's highly subjective which ones.

Personally I found the V4 and M4 clones product gave horrible results and had to return it. Same for the riversift art conversion product. I get a much more perfect fit autofitting to G3 first and then saving that version to fit to G8.

Other than the G8 head and body morphs for male and female, there is nothing on your list that I would consider essential or fundamental which is why it's hard to give answers to questions like this, eveyone has their own preferences and the list can get really long, real fast.

Are you going to be using Poser or DS? The G3 and G8 figures don't work really in Poser, and the earlier Genesis figures require the Dson convertor?

Hellboys's Lash Utilities https://www.daz3d.com/lashes-utilities-for-genesis-2-3-and-8 But I use it more for the guys, since a lot of the characters usually don't come with lash morphs to add more volume. The best part it's that it's for G2F/G2M and G3F/G3M too.

The OP asked for lists of items we personally feel are essential to our rendering. No need to point out that subjective lists are subjective.

    Thanks for the tips, everybody.

Sure thing :-). Please speak your mind freely.

My intention is just to avoid doing a friggin' year of rendering only to find out I was missing a product that would make everything much better all along. For example, I remember a certain plugin on Poser Pro that would noticeably improve the character skins (not sure if it was M4/V4), and I was upset I didn't discover it before.

Right now, my hardware configuration is unfit for rendering, since I own an old AMD FX-8350 and an AMD R9 380, which is unable to render on Iray. I do plan on getting a RTX 2060 on the next months, though. I understand that 6GB VRAM can be subpar for rendering, but I won't be doing any massively complex scene. I like layering images, though, like a background/architectural render, then some character renders, then mixing and matching them as I please.

I'll be using Daz Studio. Sorry for not specificating.

  • Agreed with FSMCDesigns about RiversoftArts products, especially RSSY Clothing Converter from V4/ M4 to G8

I tried and tried and tried to make this work, first time months ago, and last night again.  The conversions kept on blowing up or generating 'no clothing item found' messages.   Read the forums, saw the pain in others.  There are simpler ways -- like FSMCDesigns said, just autofit to G3 first and convert it to G8.  I give up with this one.  Worst of all, I hung on to it for too long and can't return it now.  Lesson learned, kiddies.  Make sure it works outside the box -- and fast.
