Hi all,
I just started watching the show "The Last Airbender" and have been getting really into it, and I wanted to make a model of the main character. The most distinctive part of him is these arrow tattoos all over his body. My question is how do you make tattoos contiguous on the texture files?
I've played around with across the shoulder blades tattoos, but that requires a lot of guess and check that I somehow don't believe skilled artists use.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but in the event it might help, I made a vid some time ago with my technique for adding a tattoo to a post-render figure in photoshop:

Not what you are looking for...but important to know when doing tattoos

I hope more people read through this tutorial. I cannot believe the amount of unnatural tattoos I've seen on textures.

Perhaps this utility may be helpful?
If I recall correctly it goes over seams.
You should be able to make your desired tattoo on a completely white background and load it in to position and then use that in Photoshop to combine with the other layers. I'm pretty sure that's how I did it before, but it's been a long time since I've used it..
Here is the readme for it:

Thanks for all the replies! I ended up just doing a "trial and error" process which actually came out really well! I'll try to post some renders tonight and if anyone is interested I can include the photoshop file with the layers to apply to other textures
if you are a Daz Studio user, you can also play with the Layer Image Editor and layer tattoos right in the program. You can adjust transparency, etc.
