Brass Pole Nightclub won't render on GPU

I have a GTX 1080 ti, so obviously I want to render with the GPU. But despite having 11GB of vram, this renders on CPU only. I've tried deleting object not in camera and reducing textures to a 4th of their resolution, but nothing. Very strangely, the DJ booth loaded all by itself causes CPU only rendering - but if I remove it, it still renders CPU only. Anyone have the same problem?

  • Other than the basics of making sure your GPU is selected and all that, what drivers are you on? There was a few recently that had an iRay bug in them that prevented the GPU from being used to render. Might be the issue you're seeing.

The Brass Pole renders just fine on my 1080. VRAM load is suprisingly light, maybe 2GB (with nothing else in the scene). NVIDIA Drivers had recently been a problem after 417.71, with an update coming out every week or so instead of monthly. There's a new one as of a couple of days ago (419.35), but I haven't seen anything from the non-gaming crowd (who always have a slew problems, it seems, no matter what the driver revision).

I'm not sure why that is the case.  I can't recreate your issue, unfortunately.  Even this promo (shown below) with 9 figures and clothes and hair still loaded and rendered on my GPU, which was a GTX 980 at the the time.  I would submit a ticket, as this is not something I can answer personally.  I'm not "techie"

  • Werll, that just raises more questions. Thanks, Slosh, it's a very nice set.

Which driver version do you have? Check with NVIDIA control panel, System Information (bottom left corner). Driver version is the first item in the list that pops up.

I've have had renders fail because of Out of Memory:

    1) too much fibre hair

    2) Too many instances of reflective objects

    3) Too many instances of opaque objects with emissive light, eg, fake modeled flame

  • I've been using the pubilc beta, which I assume wasn't what you used, Slosh. So I tried with the stable release and that rendered via GPU no problem. Very strange. I may submit a ticket, but I'm not sure what I'll need to provide.

Yes, I made this nightclub at the end of 2016, so was probably DS 4.9 or something like that.  And I don't use the betas at all when making products, so it is unlikely something to do with that.  Maybe the beta has some issue?  It is beta, after all.  A ticket would be a good idea.  Not sure what info to provide, either, but I hope you are able to work it out
