smoothing done by cpu or gpu?
![alan bard newcomer](https://farnsworth-prod.uc.r.appspot.com/forums/uploads/userpics/940/n180DGD57MI6K.jpg)
just reinstalled 4.10 to check this..
with one of my characters ... cat figure it takes 20 seconds to smooth after a move
with karisa 8 and that same dress it takes 10 seconds
okay the cat is more complex.
but these numbers are hard to work with
dual cpus running xeon 2630v3 64g ddr 980ti win 7 64 bit nvidia drivers updated in feb
---
smoothing equals the little bar down in the lower left corner of the viewport
nothing other than whatever the defautl smoothing is set for
the cat is expected to take more that then girl .. more complex
but 10 and 20 secs .. just sounds high.. and I think this has not been such a issue in the past
and Duh.. this only happens with people .. not things
----
the scene took 10 minutes to render 2000x2500...
----
any ideas how to speed this up?
---
when working during the scene arrange .. cpu usage is basically nil
---
as noted in the extra shots.. the gpu is starting about 2900 that's with 4 monitors including a 43 inch 4k
went to about 4400 during the render and now that the render is done and closed it's still sitting at 3700.
---
so do I have a card issue, a hard drive problem, or?
should be noted I've been having no delay problems in photoshop or 3d max or ESO (game)
---
besides the time spend "smoothing".. I also have the two or three second delay in changing selections in the scene list etc. (system reboot made no difference)
the gpu data is from start 3 min in and 4 min in.
----
so even if gpu is used for the smoothing .. there would seem to be plenty of memory and gpu power for it

As far as I know smoothing uses the CPU, but I think it's single threaded.
may I scream... I have 16 cores 32 threads ... and something that's dragging the heck ouf of the process is single threaded?
I've offen wondered why Daz doesn't use more cpu (other than when rendering-in which case it will take all if it can).

Smoothing needs to be turned off on each item?
---
As I said, it's logical that the cat character with it's extra parts etc takes twice as long as the g8 character
but is that 10 second smooth on the stock g8 character with just a dress and hair ... outside of a reasonable expectation?
And the smooth takes place everytime I move the character.
---
will search for just program running slow.. which also seems to effect selecting items in the scene list and expanding the items there
---
Thanks
and the winner in the bring things to a halt activity is the Hip Retro Dress
----
change the outfit and the lag goes away
so I will work with an alternative outfit until everything is ready
because the other two genesis dresses I tried don't smooth and don't fit well enough to use.
----
will check my other characters.. they are all saved as scene subsets
Don't forget that you can multi-select to turn smoothing off, you don't need to do it item-by-item.
thanks for the reminder.. I've never had to turn smoothing off .. so never considered I could do it all at once
