AUTO-FIT my own content to Genesis 8 characters?

Hello All,

I need to understand the process / workflow of: Fitting my original content that I will model as accessories for Genesis 8 (Male + Female)
Just to be clear I'm not talking about Drag & Drop to parent an asset to a character in Daz, but the all process from Exporting.
I'm currently using latest versions of: Daz 4.11 and Blender 2.8 (both on Beta currently but I had no issues so far).

Once My Model is complete in Blender 2.8:
1 - What Blender export should I use for Daz - OBJ vs FBX ?
2 - Can you please share the best export properties?
3 - Once I import my model to Daz, How do I make it FIT to ANY Genesis Character, I believe it's called Comfort? but I'm not sure...

Example of what I try to do:
Let's say I make an asset that should fit the chick or the nose or the forehead of the character and I modeled it that it's wrap around the face like a band, or futuristic elastic mask that "sits" exactly on the face even if the nose is HUGE or small it will wrap around it.
So basically if the Genesis 8 character's face features are different, that elastic mask should fit EXACTLY on ANY genesis 8 character, that's my goal.

I don't know how to explain this, but I see that works with bracelets to fit any thickness of any hand, masks, and of course Clothes that fits automatically as soon as you Drag and Drop it on a character.

I found a nice visual example on this product:  Fantasy Collar, Mask, and Cloak for Genesis 8 Male(s)

Again, I think it's something like comfort-related in Daz but I'm just guessing.

Consider I'm still learning Daz, If you can help in a friendly step-by-step guide or explanation or even screenshots or a good video tutorial (which I didn't find on YouTube) it will be VERY helpful not just for me, but for many other people who may be interested in the process.

* Sorry about my bad English and thanks ahead!

  • 1.  I use OBJ export from Blender.

    2.  The attached image shows the export settings I use.  'Keep Vertex Order' and 'Polygroups' are mainly for making morphs; you may not need them for objects you have modelled in Blender.

    3.  You need to use the Transfer Utility (Edit menu->Object->Transfer Utility).  There are better resources available online than I could create in several hours.  I suggest you search for 'Daz Studio Transfer Utility' and see what you can find.  There are some videos on Youtube I am sure.  Others may come along with links to specific guides later.

No apologies necessary for your English.  I guarantee it is much better than I am at whatever your first language is!

Note that this isn't AutoFit - AutoFit is the tool for converting an already-rigged item from one figure to another.

    Thanks Richard!
So... I'm a bit confused now, do I need to use the Transfer Utility in my case?
Not sure if the process count as rig inside Daz so I don't know if I also need to use the AutoFit in order to complete my task?
Because my goal is that my content will fit ALL Genesis 8 characters not just a specific one.

Unfortunately, I still didn't found any tutorial about it on YouTube so I hope it's not complicated as I think.

You need to use the Transfer Utility to take your static OBJ exported from Blender and turn it into rigged conforming clothing.

Daz Wiki documentation - basic Rigging with Transfer Utility

    Some Transfer Utility Terms Defined

Turn a 3D object into conforming clothing

"Auto Follow", not "Auto Fit", is the method by which conforming clothing for Genesis 8 Male or Genesis 8 Female is adjusted in Daz Studio to conform to morphs that are applied to the base model. Auto Follow is often not good enough, and you may have to create specific clothing morphs to correspond to individual character morphs. That is why many clothing items purchased in the Daz Store contain specific FBM (full body morphs) to make the clothing fit more nicely than Auto Follow.

That's not how clothing gets applied to a Genesis character. If you build the clothes to fit Genesis 8 on its own, then DAZ|Studio will automatically generate fit morphs for any character you dial up on the G8 figure.

Note that, as said upthread, this automatic process is pretty good, but not perfect — sometimes you will need to manually create a morph for a proper fit if the auto process just doesn't look good.
