Is it possible to use a Gen 3 skin texture on a Gen 8 model?

I've seen similar things with outfits with clones(don't really know how those work)/Riversofts convertors and i was wondering if there was a way to do something similar with the skin materials.

Textures using G3F Base UVs can be used on G8F directly, and same for the males.

For the few textures using different UVs than the base (mostly the ones included with “character 7”) you would need to use the Map Transfer tool in DS to convert them to the Base UVs first.

The Genesis 3 eye materials do not fit properly to Genesis 8 characters, though, because the geometry was changed. Just use some Genesis 8 eye materials with your Genesis 3 skins on Genesis 8.

One other tip for you: Select both the G8 figure and the G8 Eyelashes and then apply the full G3 materials preset.

^ why is it better to also select the eyelashes?

Because the eyelashes are separate with G8 when they were not separate with G3. If you don't select the eyelashes, the material settings will not apply to them, because the preset won't "see" them. You'll wind up with white eyelashes instead of properly colored ones.

    Expanding on what @vwrangler said:

The G8 eyelashes are a separate object, like hair or clothing, and need to have the materials specifically applied to them. You do not need to select them when applying G8 materials because the presets are "hierarchical" and specifically include the eyelashes. (These presets are labeled "H.Materials" across the top of the icon, as opposed to just "Materials".)

To apply G3 materials to G8 Eyelashes, you must select the eyelashes object and apply the preset. By selecting both the figure and the eyelashes at the same time, you apply the material to both in one step, rather than two.

    I hope this helps.

I'm actually still a bit confused...

I know that the G8 eyelashes are separate, and G3 eyelashes are not.

But if I select G8 eyelashes and apply G3 materials... what preset get's applied? I would have thought G3 materials doesn't contain any "eyelash information" or whatever, since G3 doesn't have separate eyelashes...

    Am I making sense?
