Anyone know how to get this hair to work?

I just bought this hair, and it just sits on her head all standing straight out and I can't get it to even move with all the tons of dials nor the preset styles. Here is what it does.

I am completely lost and unhappy!

The presets should move parts of it, but it is going to stay up until you use dforce. Is it not moving even after you run the simulation?

It is a dforce only hair, you need to run a smulation after you pose the figure.

  • music2u4umusic2u4u Posts: 2,822

Nope, just sits there, no motion. I just want to lay it flat and I don't use any animations. How does Dforce work? Never used it.

https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/203201/daz-3d-introduces-dforce-physics-engine/p1 There is this, but also there is probably a PDF guide with the product, there was one with the straight long hair, and that should help with the basics.

I wish I had known this before I bought it. It is useless to me now. I don't have "Dforce" if it is a purchased item. Can't I just use it like a regular hair? without the "Dforce" stuff? That's what I wanted when I bought it.

Dforce is a part of daz 4.10, if you use that version of the program you have it. It's not a purchased product.

It's part of the current version of Studio, not a paid for add on.

Once you have the figure posed and make sure the hair isn't touching any part of the body or clothing, go to the "simulations settings" tab, turn off "start bones from memorized pose" and then hit the little blue button for "simulate". It is a HD product and depending on your system, could take awhile to simulate.

OK...I have 4.10 and I use it all the time. My main Daz. So why won't it move, why can't I pose it to lay down like hair? I did the simulation thing, both of them and still nothing.

So I have to do this everytime I want to pose the character? Where is the "simulations settings" tab located? It has a simulation folder with it with two things. "Pose for 60 frames" and "simulation". I clicked both of them and nothing happened. So I must wait and it will take the shape I choose?

The Simulation Settings are located on Window > Panes (Tabs) > Simulation Settings.

OK...I found the simulation settings tab but it did not have "start bones from memorized pose". I had to reset the Dforce engine for it to work. I have never used it before. So I posed the character using a basic Daz pose and hit the blue simulation button. The character went back to the zero pose and slowly started to move to the pose I had set it for. It now says "Stabilizing simulation" and is at 10% and " simulation" is at 50% and I am 1 hour into this single pose. Is it gonna take this long to do each pose? 10%....I got 9 hours to go for one pose....no thanks!

Video is hard to see...she moves way too fast to see what all she is doing and she doesn't speak well either, I can't understand what she is doing or saying...lol. Her simulation was done is a matter of seconds...why is that?

Are you using your CPU or GPU during the dForce simulation? GPUs are faster for this job. Some products really take a considerable time to simulate (hair versus clothes). I have Linday's other dForce hair product and that one also takes a few minutes to sim.

It finally finished. This is the pose and it took over an hour and a half to simulate it.

I will play with this. I have watched a few tuts on youtube and learned some things there. I will get the hang of it eventually. This will be good for clothes too. I have lots of Dforce clothes and I didn't know what it meant. This rocks! Thanks for the help guys.

Glad you got it working! Hair will be a lot slower than clothing to simulate, but it can look really good once it's done.

The product comes with a series of tutorial videos telling you how to use the product.

Sadly this hair is pretty resource heavy. Unless you have a very good GPU,  it can indeed take a long time for the simulation to run. However it is possible to save your simulations as shaping morphs for future use. So you can totally save the hair flat as a shape, and use that shape again later without needing the sim. This might not work every time depending on your pose, but it can help a lot.

ummm...no it didn't. It has a .pdf that shows briefly how to set it up. Very confusing. No videos.

This sounds good. How do I save it as a shape?

After turning off the "simulate from pose", here is a 30 minutes render. I also found out that, when it simulates, it involves everything in the setting, so you can select an item, then select the item's "display" and make the simulator not read it. This will speed up the simulation. Gonna try that tonight after work. You can hide stuff in display and it will ignor it, like eyelashes.

Yes, it does. Right there on the product page it says:

    5 Video Tutorials:

    • Quick Start
    • Initial Shape Adjusting
    • Creating Custom Initial Morph
    • Using Timeline in Simulation
    • Using Wind Morph

If you install with the Install pane in Daz Studio, they don't get installed (Don't ask me why; I think that is bad on Daz's part, but CS doesn't consider that a bug needing to be corrected.) You can install them with DIM or manually download from your product library. I'm sorry you are having a problem finding the videos. I found them very helpful.

This is where they get installed by DIM:

/Linday/dForce Classic Long Curly Hair Tutorials/01 Quick Start.mov
/Linday/dForce Classic Long Curly Hair Tutorials/02 Initial Shape Adjusting.mov
/Linday/dForce Classic Long Curly Hair Tutorials/03 Creating Custom Initial Morph.mov
/Linday/dForce Classic Long Curly Hair Tutorials/04 Using Timeline in Simulation.mov
/Linday/dForce Classic Long Curly Hair Tutorials/05 Using Wind Morph.mov

I bought it too, but my poor old GeForce GT730 can't handle it at all :(   It either dies and gives a memory error or just crashes Studio totally.

Such a shame, I really love how it looks, but should have guessed that I was seriously underpowered for this sort of toy.

Put in for a refund earlier. Fingers crossed it will come on sale in the future when I have been able to upgrade my poor old dinosaur PC.

  • Anyway you can use this in an animation, I dont mean the 60 fps sim. but an animation where the hair moves along with the body movements for several seconds?

Yeh, looks great; hair that is realistically draped, unlike the abominations (IMO) that applies to most.

  • For reference to the OP or for anyone who wants to download only the How-To Video Tutorials for this dForce hair product...

Go to your Product Library on Daz3D.com you will see there are 2 Manual download files available.  The second file ends with Tutorials.zip and is 566 MB in size.

Click the Download Zip button next to it to save it to any location you want on your computer. After download is complete, navigate to that location, and extract (unzip) the file and inside the folder are the 5 training videos.

  • Music2u4u  check this video on how to use dforce, he does explain it well. You can also use subtitles if you stil having troublel hearing.

There is also this one which goes into detail of what to do, he zooms in on what he is doing and he doesn't hide his mistakes.
