God-rays: what am I doing wrong?

Just installed Epic Props: Godrays & Volumetric Light for Iray. This is my first attempt at using any volumetric lighting product, so I've been trying to learn it by following YouTube tutorials etc. I must be missing something because this is what I keep getting.

You have to do all three steps for it to work: Go to Light sets on your Smart Content tab. Choose Step one Short medium or long.
then in your Scene tab choose Godray_light and choose filter then go to step 2 and finally step three and the ray will appear.

Its a hard one so play around with it until you find a nice ray-Then save it as a subset and Merge it with any scen you like.

You can also find all the particulars in your content folder under Epic props!

Your image looks like you only did 2 steps...

@ValKyrie, I found products like this much easier to use from the Content Library, where the steps are separated into their own folders. If you're having trouble finding things in the Content Library, you can right-click on any God-Ray image in Smart Content and select Show Asset In, Content Library > Mapped Folder.

(I was a beta tester, and do not have the released version. So I don't know if the folder structure is the same in Smart Content. My experience with other such products would suggest it is not the same.)

A lot of older content still doesn't have the meta data necessary to show up in Smart Content, so it's a good idea to become familiar with your Content Library. The tip to show the asset in it's mapped folder is a good one to use on any product, to familiarize yourself with the structure of the Content Library.

Anyway, I hope you'll find this information helpful.

  • L'Adair, yes I do. Sometimes as you say, things don't turn up in smart content, and so I was trying this from within the content library earlier today. After reading My 3D Spin's comments I found it in smart content and there everything was laid out step by step. I think though that my biggest issue has been not properly selecting the prop in step 2. Now it's on to the struggle to understand how strong the light needs to be. Ever learning I guess!

Yes, always learning. But that's what keeps us young, isn't it?
