Manifest files - OK to copy from old computer to new one?

Hi all,
A little while back my rendering computer died and today I am finally getting around to getting the data off the old laptop and copying it over to the new one. On my new laptop Install Manager shows that I only have a handful of items installed even though there was no change in my library (which is on an external drive). If I copy the manifest files off the old harddrive and drop them onto the new one will IM then "see" that all those files are installed, or will that cause issues? Or do those files not do what I think they do at all?
Thanks for any help!

I would guess that IM couldn't see those files as installed as I would also guess that it can only 'see' what's been downloaded via IM. But I'll soon be in the same situation as you and dread having to redownload everything to new PC from scratch! I also have everything backed up on an external hard drive, so installing sets and subsets, etc, won't be a problem, but I doubt I can just copy my content library over.
I actually have my whole library on an external drive and plug it in whenever I am working in Studio and don't have any problems with it. It's just Install Manager that can't tell what I have installed anymore.
Yse, you can copy the Manifests over, if the location of the isntalled content is the same (the drive letter might need checking if you are using an external drive). Did you also copy the CMS database across? If not then DS won't know what is installed even if DIM does via copying the Manifests.
I had everything moved to my external drive before the old computer died so my content is all working fine - DS can see it and load it all fine (as long as I remember to connect the external drive first) - I was just trying to get IM to stop showing all that installed content as not installed. Copy over the manifest files has done the trick. :)
Thanks!
