Work on scene while rendering, on the same computer?

areg5 said in "my 3 video card experience" thread that daz will sometimes crash when rendering while working on a scene. I assume this means running multiple daz instances? I suppose multiple cards and oodles of vram is the only thing that would make this even feasible. I have neither but my ears perked up. Of course, an update to daz that allows rendering in the background would be nice, but am sure that would be a major rewrite of some key subsystems, who knows.

anyone do this?

Yeah, all the time. Just install the latest beta version and go ahead;) I even render in both instances simultaneously, but I use 3DL so don't know if IRay likes that:)

I do it in Iray occasionally using the Beta at the same time as the main program.

You don't even need the Beta to make it work.  I do it quite often, I just open a new instance of Daz while the other one is rendering.  Of course, you can't use the Iray preview if the other instance is rendering Iray, but if you already have the lighting set it's not a big deal.  Since I make comics, many of the scenes are the same environment and lighting, I just need to change camera angles and poses.  I does work.  It can be a bit slow, and on occasion it'll crash ... not the whole computer, mind you, Daz might just shut down and you have to restart it.  I do so many frames per day, that I want to set up a dedicated server whose only job is rendering.  I found out how to directly connect the two computers, and I run the rendering server via remote desktop.  Since it will be hard wired there should be no or virually no lag.  Also since it's hard wired, I shouldn't have to have 2 daz libraries, I should be able to have the server pull the scenes from my present workstation, and use my present library.
