Iray Iteration: 292 Iray :Render target canvas was written

What does   this mean

Iray Iteration: 292

Iray :Render target canvas was written

Right now my  my iteration are going up but I am still at 0% after an hour.     So I am trying to learn what all of this means.

Thank you

Iray will process several sample iterations between writing the update to the render window. This helps speed up the render, by not writing each iteration to the window.

Do you have an Nvidia card? I'm wondering if you are rendering CPU Only. At 0% after an hour, I'm also curious how many iterations you've reached…

What is the scene? If you have a largely enclosed environment in the viewport and are lighting solely via the default environment dome (or with Distant Lights) then the process of convergence (pixels reaching what is taken to be their final colour) will be very slow; the progress bar measures how close the render is to having the target ratio of converged to total pixels.

After almost  2 hours.  I have done 432 Iteration   Yes I am only doing CPU.  It is now at 2%.

No I do not have a Nvidia Card.     If I were to stop it.  i would be able to save Iteration 432?

Yes. When you hit the Cancel button. the render stops. The window remains open until you close it. If you like what you see and want to keep it, Save first, then close the window. As long as the window is open, it will be using some of your RAM, how much depending on the scene. If you run out of memory, Daz Studio will likely close down, without any opportunity to save your scene first.

Which reminds me, be sure to Save As a scene early, and the save frequently. I like to save my scenes before each render when I've made significant changes.

You can shave a tiny bit of time off the render if you make the following changes to Render Settings->Progressive Rendering:

    • Quality Enable: Off
    • Max Time: 0

By turning off quality, the program is not longer trying to converge the image. By turning off time, it no longer checks to see how long it's been rendering.

Now you can control the length of the render solely with Max Samples. These are the settings I use for nearly every Iray render I do, and have done for a couple of years now.

You can also render the image twice the size as the final image you need, ie 2000 x 2000 pixels instead of 1000 x 1000 pixels, and then size the image to 50% in your iimage editor after you've saved it. that will help clean up the graininess a lot.

And by the way, welcome to the Daz community. smiley

Where do I go too choose the pixel size of the render?
