Need help understanding and managing folders - returning user

HI guys,

I'm technically not completely new, as I dabbled with Daz 3D a few years ago (around the time the 7 series of figures was being introduced but I have mostly 6s) but I've forgotten a lot and many things have changed so I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out with some basic issues first of all (and actually I always had problems with library management, I find DAZ studio UI very confusing at times)

First of all, at the time I first used Daz I bought quite a bit of product I still have, currently on an external hard drive (backup for data on an older PC about to give up the ghost). Eventually I want to make sure I can use those products again.

Anyways, in Daz Studio there were only two folders at that time.  mydaz3d ibrary (under documents/daz3d/studio/) and the render library

now, in studio I see three folders: My Daz Connect Library / My Library / My Render Library

My Render Library = I guess that's where the renders I make will be stored

MyDazConnect Library and my My Library though, look rather similar..... why are there two folders? Where should I put my older products? (stuff I've been redonwnloading from the site, like Genesis essentials and some outfits, environments etc, appears to be going into the "My Daz Connect Library"..... is that where I should put my product? My library is empty for now

Also, in MyDazConnect Library I find = Data/cloud/ 4 different folders identified by numbers...... this is very confusing and very different from the old one (as far as I remember)

so, what do I do with my old products? Should I put them in My Library instead? How do I find them again? What folders affect smart content searches.... I"m confused

Maybe it's asking for a lot, but I was wondering if someone could sum up some basic organization patterns in DAZ, if any, or point me to some tutorials that might help me understand how the filing systems works? I would appreciate any help. I want to get back into DAZ but damn, the way the data is organized seems like a total mess

You will also, by default, have My Daz 3D Library in the Public Documents folder. That is used by Install Manager, if you don't chnage it (in DIM and in DS). The My Daz Connect Library is used by Daz Connect, the newish tool for isntalling content from within Daz Studio - you don't manually place any files there, Connect places the content you install that way in the /Data/Cloud folders with the product's SKU (the number that appears on the product page). The My Library folder is the default location for your own saved files, though you can also use it for manual installs.

    OK, this helps a bit.....

So the "My Connect Library" will fill with stuff downloaded..... and the folders have the product number on them. But you seem to say they're actually in the cloud rather than on my computer? That seems odd considering it took a while to install them. Am I misunderstanding something.

The My Daz Library in public documents is empty at the moment..... is it because I installed files with connect instead (I did use the install manager)

So I should put tthe files I manually reinstall iny Library' then" Will the software see them? How do I find them when in Studio?

Still confusing, could anybody explain in simple termas why we have so many folders and what we are supposed to do with them?

Cloud is the name of a folder on your computer if you use Connect to install with.  There are a number of products that cannot be installed by Connect so I advise just not using it.  You are not limited to the default libraries. you can add more in DIM (check the Show Details box on the Ready to Install tab to be able to switch libraries).  You will need to point Studio to any additional libraries through the Content Directory Manager in Studio.

Okay, but why would I add more? I'd be happy jsut to understand how to use (and how to install my old products in) the ones I laready have
