Hardware question

I know this isn't a hardware forum but because it effects Daz Studio I think it's related.
I have two HD's in my machine the main drive C:/ has DS and is where my daz libraries live. I also have second drive that holds my external poser runtime folders which are linked to DS. I think that secondary drive is having issues it's an old drive and from time to time every few minutes I hear a small thump. My question is if I should need to swap that drive out with another drive, in which I have with all the same Poser runtime folders on it, will I need to relink it to DS or will not effect DS at all? I'm guessing since the other drive is listed D:/ and swapping the drives will not change the letter of the drive DS should just see it as D:/ drive?
If it's in fact the C:/ then that's a no brainer the drive will need to be replaced and will have to do fresh installs of everything. But I'm pretty sure it's that D:/ drive since it's it old. I really need to boot the mechanical drives out and move up to SSD's at some point.
Thanks

If you can copy everything over from D: and give the new drive that same letter and name, it should work work fine and Daz should recognize everything. Based on my experience, once you start hearing a click or bump coming from your drive, you're already on borrowed time and you need to find the bad drive and replace it. You could have another 5 weeks or 5 seconds left. Don't take chances with your data.
As far as replacing with SSD, it may not be worth it if you have a large drive. I have a 4 Tb Raid 1 volume (made up of 2 identical drives). Last year one of my drives died, so I ordered a replacement, installed it and Windows rebuilt the volume in about a day and a half. No sweat. So for me, buying those 3 drives is still cheaper than getting a 4Tb SSD, plus I have some security against data loss.
But to each his own. At the very least, get a flash drive or something and back up your most vital stuff right now, just in case. Good luck.
Thanks I have everything backed up both on the C:/ drive which is the main drive, OS, my libraries, etc and on the D:/ drive. Luckly the C:/, should it fail, I still have the warranty in force.
