If you are going to continue using DAZ- First of all, always make copies and put in an external hard drive. Once a new version comes out, you can NOT get the old one in the Product Library anymore. And even if you are using the same version, you may find you wish you had something back.

You have DAZ in Program Files and Program Data, and also in Users>Your Name>etc etc down to My Library, etc. When I started all over, I just deleted everything after making the copies I referred to. Someone else may have a better answer though.

I don't get this part- what the heck is Regedit, and the last line lost me. Wouldn't just doing what I did do the same thing? Program Data, Program Files, and the C part I mentioned got rid of everything, including CMS. (Content Management Service) and the databases, etc.

    Reboot. Before reinstalling, open Regedit.

    Do a search in HKEY_CURRENT_USER

if you type in Regedit in the Windows start menu you will have access to Editing the Registry = Regedit. The Registry contains a lot of information about where the software is installed to, so if you don't clean the DS references out when you reinstall DS the installer will try to install in the same location. But like you I am unsure exactly what info the registry contains, on top of what I said. And I don't know what would happen if you manually changed the install location on installling Daz Studio without cleaning the registry.

And no just clearing out the database will not be efficent enough, after all it is only a database for Smart content as far as I know.

I'd seriously not go deleting things in regedit if you don't know what your doing in there, could really screw things up with your system. Would be a good idea to read around a bit before going in there.

NEVER Reg edit at ALL if your going to install DAZ Studio again anyway. The poniters will never Hurt a thing if left in the Reg file.

Revo Uninstaller, which has a registry cleaner and CCleaner, primarily a registry cleaner, are the safer choices for people with little computer tech knowledge. They both have free versions that do their jobs just fine. DAZ puts stuff about content folders in the registry that doesn't really need to be there. If you want a clean slate with no tendril visages of Studio the registry has to be purged, of course you will have to re-enter you serial numbers for Studio and any plug-ins. Final tip, stop installing to the Program Files, Program Files (x86) and ProgramData folders, Windows' UAC is just to darn flaky/paranoid about those folders.

Szark it's fine to do IF you know what your doing. I strongly suggest any user that has any fear of any kind about editing the Reg NOT try it themselves. That was my point. Any MS compliant Reg cleaner is a better option IF, one it auto backs up the Full file first, and two the end user knows how to restore the Backup file IF needed. The Dead Pointers as I say will not cause issues with the PC.

Yeah I know your background dude hence why I asked you as you know this stuff well. I have a dabbled with doing it and yes I agree it is not something to be done blindly. Oh the pain of registry problems.

Sorry Szark. I'm in a bit of High pain today and got Snippy. I, even with my background, use the FULL CCleaner as it does the job properly and meets my requirement of a Full Backup Before action. I do not recommend it as the only tool but I will use it for LARGE uninstalls. Another tip for most users Never use the Compress option from anything, even MS, on your Reg file unless your looking for trouble.

I'm reading along and it didn't come across as snippy at all. Sounded like you were clarifying.
Hope the meds help with the pain. Thinking about you. :)

No need to be sorry dude and no snippy taken. LOL I think we know each other's tone by now not to be offended. More serious things in life to get pissed off with. ;)

Yeah when I get a new PC I am going OCD on it. Acronis backup software (Jack's recommenation and does what I want it to do), multiple HDDs, Postable and internal, and untilites like this so all info greatly recieved and noted. I am not going to do another content reinstall ever. Well not after I do the DIM.

Jaderail do you use CCleaner to uninstall programs instead of the Windows UnInstall or Add/Remove programs? Is there an advantage to using CCleaner for that purpose ie: does it do a clean uninstall without leaving bits and pieces behind?

    Hope you are feeling better!

I prefer Add/Remove as it will use all proper REG flags to remove files. That said the Installer and or Coder might think you need codes the OS does not. That's when I employ CCleaner on the reg.
