It's a big set :)
And it looks like a lot of fun! :)
I've been watching old episodes of UFO and Space 1999, this is a great set and perfect timing for me lol
Space 1999 that's an old one, isn't that the one where they have a moon base, and the moon goes out of orbit and they travel through the universe?

yup
UFO is an old 60's series as well, it was made in the 60's but set in the 80's so you get this weird look of what they though the 80's would be like in the 60's
Man I've got to hunt both of them down I only remember a little bit of UFO, 1999 had some great space suit to.
Cheers
both are free on hulu right now
Damn I can see them but I can't watch them as I'm in the land of Oz :(
no hulu in oz?
It's a big set :)
Outstanding set for a freebie. This is what makes Platinum Club membership well worth it.
Really a great set and it should also work as "under the sea" base - at least in parts :) Big thanks for this free item, it is highly appreciated :)

Nice to hear, thanks :)

I'll have to get out my UFO DVDs and watch them sometime. As I remember it the earth based parts were mildly futuristic looking but when they went to the moonbase all the women's hair turned purple and they only wore silver clothes.

the reason for the purple hair on the moon base was when Gerry Anderson saw the lighting on the set he decided the purple hair would look kool on that set. No other reason than that. No explanation was ever given on the show.
I checked Moonbase so fast I didn't even take look at promo, but (forgive me squeeing) OMG, Soviet Union textures? O_o Thank you very much!
"Greetings from Mars. Wish You Were Here." Fits very well with "Moonscapes". It's not large. It's gigantic. Very well done, and thanks again.

I don't remember if it was on the show or just in the novels, but the purple hair were anti-static wigs, to help protect the sensitive electronics from static shocks (not too far-fetched, when I consider how many times I've seen someone's keyboard or mouse "zapped").
As for the colour purple, maybe it was to be able to tell at a glance if the hair was protected or not? Plus, it looked cool with the silver jumpsuits. ;-)

So why did only the gals wear the purple wigs?
Thank you ....nice set...Hugh...lol

It's almost always females in the communications centre (where the most sensitive equipment is), IIRC.
If I had to rationalize, I'd say that the female's longer hair was more of a danger, both from static and from loose hair (if anyone's ever had to clear their wife's long hair out of the bathtub drain, they can imagine what it would do to the air circulation in a sealed environment).

I'll second that. That also goes for most $1.99 items - you really get a lot for your money, and the quality is usually very high.
Loved both UFO and Space 1999 as a kid.
Fun fact. A third season was planned for UFO but the show was cancelled. However the models for the new improved moon base were completed so they were just used for Moonbase Alpha in Space 1999.
Some fan fiction has UFO and Space 1999 take place within the same continuity and The UFO Moonbase is a secret installation on the moon, hidden from Moonbase Alpha.
there is some UFO and Space 1999 freebies out there
I think Space 1999 had the most realistic human space vehicles, far superior to those in Star Wars and Star Trek IMO. Of course never understood if Star Wars characters were supposed to be humankind.
Get yer free 1999 stuff here: http://www.space1999.org/gallery/cgi_models_meshes/
I was a big fan of 1999, but I don't remember the show UFO
I think the Space 1999 eagle spaceships were with their blocky look and bits sticking out were closer to current space capsules. Star Trek was hundreds of years in the future so they should be more refined in design.
It does say in the Star Wars opening credits "A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far Away..." so they are not Earth humans, unless someone like the Goauld (or however you spell it) brought them through the stargate.... buts lets not get into that.
That's a great model archive, but does anyone have a link to the .3ds version of the Eagle without a pod? The link goes to the pod on its own, which is the next model down on the page — and yes, the links are identical. Guesstimating the proper filename doesn't work.
