How Can I see the "Weight" of a Scene Before Rendering?

ElgyfuElgyfu Posts: 279

Please excuse what is probably a very noobish question.

I am doing some test to see exactly what my poor old PC can and cannot handle.

Is there a way to easily see how much memory a scene is taking before I render it. I mean, a metric that shows how "heavy" the scene  is, so I can compare it with other scenes? I may not be phrasing this well.

I am assuming there is something because I see people talk about figures and stuff, but have no idea where to find these metrics.  I have googled, no avail.

    Iray memory assistant work well:

Another fairly simple option (assuming you are using Windows) to get a rough estimate would be using the task manager. Check how much memory you use with just plain DAZ Studio opened. Then load the scene, check the new value in the task manager and do the maths. If you don't have an nVidea card that can take the render, the size of your scene will double (minimum), but depending on other factors, like normal maps and HD, it can be more than double the load on your memory when the render falls back to CPU.

Doesn't weight the scene but helps you reducing the weight: https://www.daz3d.com/scene-optimizer

Ah thank you. I have Scene Optimizer. The memory assistant looks like just what I want. I got charged three times for one purchase the other day and am still awaiting Daz to reply to the ticket. When that is sorted I will probably get that assistant. Thank you :)

Yes, I have been using the Iray Memory Assistant for a while, it's pretty reliable! ^^
