dang, go away for a few days and the forum explodes with posts

    Tell me about it!

And the different styles of shaders are intriguing, too - I can already tell this is going to be a difficult one to judge, and it's only one week in...

This was about the best I could muster. Straight out of the box in Studio 2.3, no shaders using the cartoon rendering setting. Yuck...at least I've kept my record in tact for entering at least one piece for the month. Still don't think I can do a bad render? Gather 'round folks and have a look. Free of charge, no admission! Don't stand too close and don't throw objects at the render. When you done, move along and give other folks a chance! Thank you for your cooperation...Step right in, folks...

Not bad! Better than mine! Oh, wait, I didn't do one. Well, it's still better! :-P Just kidding, I don't think it's bad at all. I understand that it's not up to your standards for the genre.

I salivate at the sight of it! Lovely effect with the hatching: did you base line angle on surface normals?

I haven't had as much time to work on them this week as I'd have liked, but here's the latest render in the Mephistopolis shader style, this time using an RGB colorsplit at dot density 150, no outline. Give us your best shot: winners get to beta this!

Okay, now this is just cool. I like this one better than the original, I think because of the stark simplicity. There's nothing there that's not necessary to "tell the story."

Oh, yeah. Hi, Lonnie. Cool contest you've got going. :-)

Hey, Kludge! Nice to see ya again! However, I'm beginning to think that you, Dana and Music have serious issues in taste if you think that thing of mine is any good. Don't expect any more, unless I have a wondrous breakthrough or somethin'...which I doubt.

Not at all. If you want explanations, read the Advanced Renderman course here

Look page 122 about wood block printing

I like this one more too but there is still some work to do. The render is a bit too clean and neat. Got to do something so that it looks less "mathematical".

    Takeo.Kensei your render qualifies.
I went to the renderman.org training material and read over the equations that renderman needs but how did you translate those instructions into DAZ? Did you build a brick and pulled it into a shader. I sure wish there was more documentation on how the brick gets created. I have my eye on some gooch shaders that I would like to use. They are uncompiled renderman scripts and I am not any good at taking that information and translating it into DAZ speak. Do you have this capablility? Love your shader by the way.

Thanks for the kind words! I didn't include a Most Digital Creations freebie, and didn't feel like reworking it by the time I noticed, so that's why it's a NAE. The month is still young-maybe I'll come up with something else :)

Takeo.Kensei I really like your render. The shader looks awsome ;)
LG. Bit outlining, might be nice.

I really liked one of the bryce tutorials posted here, about cell shader for bryce. the outcome looked like good old 70's style .. wish would have bit more time to try it for the challenge :)

Nah, we just see it through different eyes is all. I'm sure you remember the things I look for from way, way back in the past ... and if you do, please remind me 'cuz I've forgotten. :-) Anyway, they're difficult to apply to comic art - or some are - but the overall "sense" is still there and, in this case, my sense of humor got a delightful tickle.

And it's fun being back to occasionally harass the folks in the freebie contests. Like usual, I'll pop in and out without warning so I guess this is fair warning of a lack of warning or something. And, of course, how close I come to actually being on topic will vary from dead on to not even in the same universe ... kinda like now.

Gotta come up with something engineerish for Lonnie, though. I had a split major - EE & AE - so I'm sure I can manage something inappropriate. ;-)

Hi, love. I'm doing okay although the agoraphobia & anxiety are getting worse. I still need an "anchor" to be able to do much of anything that involves going beyond my room's door and hopefully I'll find one - young, photogenic and local preferably. (Okay, I'm still a photographer so this is pretty much expected.)

The Docs are actually being decent although with the influx of folks coming home from the Middle East and no attendant increase in staff (Thank you Congress for yet another Fail!) they've got to slice their time pretty thin. I can't get a wearable EKG monitor anymore so I'm designing one that can store around 1/2 hour's worth of trace and anything else I can jam into it so when the EMTs arrive I won't present as normal - or at least with a normal trace.

In the meantime, my hands shake badly enough now that watch repair is out of the question. I'm not one to retreat willingly so I'm designing some Waldos of a sort to be substitute hands. The planned construction process is rather amusing since after I take it as far as necessary by hand (mine as well as those of a couple of the folks here at the Home for Wayward Vets), the initial machines will finish themselves in sort of a cooperative effort then build the rest. All of this will be under my control via microprocessors. I hope.

Anyway, I've arrived to harass the artists as usual and maybe even offer some cool ideas. Doesn't that sound like fun? :-)

Wow! First off, welcome to Madness, Inc otherwise known as the DAZ forums. You're obviously familiar with the way this place works and have your straight jacket on order.

Second, coming banging in with an entry right off is a new and cool way to introduce one's self. And with such an entry, too! Action on the right, suspense on the left. How's the bad guy going to react to the new developments? How much times does he have? While I'm not a big fan of comics - er, graphic novels - this makes me want to see the next panel.

From what I can see, you definitely got it right. :-)
