Tell me about it!
And the different styles of shaders are intriguing, too - I can already tell this is going to be a difficult one to judge, and it's only one week in...
Not bad! Better than mine! Oh, wait, I didn't do one. Well, it's still better! :-P Just kidding, I don't think it's bad at all. I understand that it's not up to your standards for the genre.

That makes two votes for "good".

Ummm ... nooo ... three. Three votes. Yes, yes, three.
I salivate at the sight of it! Lovely effect with the hatching: did you base line angle on surface normals?
I haven't had as much time to work on them this week as I'd have liked, but here's the latest render in the Mephistopolis shader style, this time using an RGB colorsplit at dot density 150, no outline. Give us your best shot: winners get to beta this!
Okay, now this is just cool. I like this one better than the original, I think because of the stark simplicity. There's nothing there that's not necessary to "tell the story."
Oh, yeah. Hi, Lonnie. Cool contest you've got going. :-)
Hey, Kludge! Nice to see ya again! However, I'm beginning to think that you, Dana and Music have serious issues in taste if you think that thing of mine is any good. Don't expect any more, unless I have a wondrous breakthrough or somethin'...which I doubt.
I like this one more too but there is still some work to do. The render is a bit too clean and neat. Got to do something so that it looks less "mathematical".

That's not as bad as you want us to think it is, but I can understand how you feel.
CalieVee, thanks for the links. Now I am going to try creating something with Bryce.
Takeo.Kensei your render qualifies.
I went to the renderman.org training material and read over the equations that renderman needs but how did you translate those instructions into DAZ? Did you build a brick and pulled it into a shader. I sure wish there was more documentation on how the brick gets created. I have my eye on some gooch shaders that I would like to use. They are uncompiled renderman scripts and I am not any good at taking that information and translating it into DAZ speak. Do you have this capablility? Love your shader by the way.
Lonnie
LG your Da' Man. Not Da' Real Man but DA' MAN for creating this render. It qualifies and I will be sending you a PM with the info on the shaders. I know, I know you can't use them just right now but maybe in the future.
Oh and I would have to agree with Dana, Kludge and Music, this one is not a bad render maybe not your greatest but not "bad".
Lonnie
NAE, involving the following:
Neutral item: aiko3
Paid items: M3V3 Equestrian poses, NeverHome, Millenium Environment, Southwest for the Daz Environments, and Hailey's Comet
Freebies: Wayii's V3RR scifi second skins, Oshikai's Unforgiven, poses for Comet, my Dieselpunk texture for Comet, Noir shaders basic and Expansion 1(?), Gnomie Buns hair, ToXic Gnomie Buns, Inola for A3, Roxie(?) for A3
EDIT: man, the text boxes DO NOT stand up well to being squeezed down to a forum friendly size.
That makes two votes for "good".
:-)
Ummm ... nooo ... three. Three votes. Yes, yes, three.
Well hello there Kludge! How my most favorite mentor been doing? Are those darn VA Docs treating you right?
Lonnie
Eustace now that is just freaky. Cool but freaky. So is that hair, fiber mesh and you put your shader on it?
Okay, now this is just cool. I like this one better than the original, I think because of the stark simplicity. There's nothing there that's not necessary to "tell the story."
Oh, yeah. Hi, Lonnie. Cool contest you've got going. :-)
Thanks Kludge. I was thinking so. May get some good intel on how to do cartoons out of this month.
Hi Odaa, Thanks for submitting a render. Are you sure you don't want to enter it? If you need help with the links I will help you. Love the story line going on in the page. So many questions! It is great!
Lonnie
Thanks for the kind words! I didn't include a Most Digital Creations freebie, and didn't feel like reworking it by the time I noticed, so that's why it's a NAE. The month is still young-maybe I'll come up with something else :)
Hey guys. Really lovely renders ;)
Takeo.Kensei I really like your render. The shader looks awsome ;)
LG. Bit outlining, might be nice.
I really liked one of the bryce tutorials posted here, about cell shader for bryce. the outcome looked like good old 70's style .. wish would have bit more time to try it for the challenge :)
Congratulations go to Chohole for her image's inclusion into the Platinum Club newsletter!
Kendall
A very pretty render too! Congrats Cho!
Oh wow, I hadn't realised. THanks guys. THat was a real surprise.
Nah, we just see it through different eyes is all. I'm sure you remember the things I look for from way, way back in the past ... and if you do, please remind me 'cuz I've forgotten. :-) Anyway, they're difficult to apply to comic art - or some are - but the overall "sense" is still there and, in this case, my sense of humor got a delightful tickle.
And it's fun being back to occasionally harass the folks in the freebie contests. Like usual, I'll pop in and out without warning so I guess this is fair warning of a lack of warning or something. And, of course, how close I come to actually being on topic will vary from dead on to not even in the same universe ... kinda like now.
Gotta come up with something engineerish for Lonnie, though. I had a split major - EE & AE - so I'm sure I can manage something inappropriate. ;-)
Hi, love. I'm doing okay although the agoraphobia & anxiety are getting worse. I still need an "anchor" to be able to do much of anything that involves going beyond my room's door and hopefully I'll find one - young, photogenic and local preferably. (Okay, I'm still a photographer so this is pretty much expected.)
The Docs are actually being decent although with the influx of folks coming home from the Middle East and no attendant increase in staff (Thank you Congress for yet another Fail!) they've got to slice their time pretty thin. I can't get a wearable EKG monitor anymore so I'm designing one that can store around 1/2 hour's worth of trace and anything else I can jam into it so when the EMTs arrive I won't present as normal - or at least with a normal trace.
In the meantime, my hands shake badly enough now that watch repair is out of the question. I'm not one to retreat willingly so I'm designing some Waldos of a sort to be substitute hands. The planned construction process is rather amusing since after I take it as far as necessary by hand (mine as well as those of a couple of the folks here at the Home for Wayward Vets), the initial machines will finish themselves in sort of a cooperative effort then build the rest. All of this will be under my control via microprocessors. I hope.
Anyway, I've arrived to harass the artists as usual and maybe even offer some cool ideas. Doesn't that sound like fun? :-)
I like this one more too but there is still some work to do. The render is a bit too clean and neat. Got to do something so that it looks less "mathematical".
Nothing wrong with mathematical but I look forward to seeing how you develop this. You definitely have gotten my attention. Whether this is good or bad depends on point of view. ;-)
Thanks Kludge. I was thinking so. May get some good intel on how to do cartoons out of this month.
Ever think maybe your whole life is a cartoon for some higher order critter? I sometimes get that feeling ... but then that's usually when my psychotropic meds and the reasons for them are somewhat out of balance.
This is my first entry and post. I hope I got it right. The whole picture was done in Daz3 and rendered with the cartoon setting. The girls are all V4 and the guy is M4

Wow! First off, welcome to Madness, Inc otherwise known as the DAZ forums. You're obviously familiar with the way this place works and have your straight jacket on order.
Second, coming banging in with an entry right off is a new and cool way to introduce one's self. And with such an entry, too! Action on the right, suspense on the left. How's the bad guy going to react to the new developments? How much times does he have? While I'm not a big fan of comics - er, graphic novels - this makes me want to see the next panel.
From what I can see, you definitely got it right. :-)
