Rendering in Iray sometimes "deconstructs" the figure instead of constructing it, how to fix?

Usually when I render in Iray the scene and figure constructs itself, and those incomplete pixels go away.

However recently, under certain conditions (usually with Genesis 8 models) the figure deconstructs as the render progresses. It looks fine at the start of the rendering process, but then skin will fade into either purple dots or nothing at all. If it helps diagnose the problem - eyes and clothes seem relatives uneffected by this, as does the enviroment.

How can I deal with it? Is it a common problem? Thanks.

Is it something like that described in these posts?

    Iray artifacts, known cause?
Skin mats causing unwanted alpha holes

Maybe you're talking about an artifact called "fireflies"?

Try going to "Render Settings", then "Filtering", and enable "Firefly Filter"! :)

  • Thanks for the replies, I figured out the solution! it's in the "Iray artifacts, known cause" thread on NorthOf45's post.

    You -

    • turn on Draw Dome in Render Settings' Editor tab
    • select the skin surfaces on the figure, in the Editor tab of the Surfaces pane, and set the SSS Type to Mono

Not only does it fix the missing pixels, but it makes rendering quicker and also fixed some weird lighting issues I was getting.

Thanks again, hopefully other people who have this problem find this thread.
