Can't get GenX to work in newest Beta version

I just downloaded and installed the Daz Studio Pro Beta 4.6.2.23 version on my Win 8 64-bit desktop and can't get GenX to work. For some reason, the settings don't seem to have imported from version 4.6.1.17 (I haven't used it in quite a while so I'm not sure I had included it in the other version).

I re-installed the GenX Upgrade but when I insert my Renderosity user name and order number from the original Gen4 product, I get a message that the order number is incorrect. I bought the GenX upgrade from Daz but Gen4 from Renderosity.

Can someone please help me with the reinstall steps?

The beta doesn't share settings with the general release (so as not to interfere with them). The installer for GenX probably only installs it to the general release.. Try looking in the plugins folder in the general release application folder for the GenX dll's and copying them to the beta plugins folder.

This Beta installation really confused me. I found that the version 4.6.1.17 was no longer available but had been replaced in the same folder (C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4 Public Build) by the new 4.6.2.23 version. I did a System Restore since I posted this and got my 4.6.1.17 version back. I noticed, though, that I don't have GenX in this version either. I'll try to reinstall GenX to that, and see what happens. I might be back with more questions. Thanks for your help, fixmypcmike!!

Actually, I'm back already. I got a new desktop earlier this year and may not have installed GenX. So I'm wondering, do I need to install Gen4 before I install GenX in order for the upgrade features of GenX to work, or can I go directly to GenX? I would think in that case the validation box would ask me for the Daz Studio order number instead of the Renderosity number??

Since you purchased the upgrade and not the full Gen X, you need to install and go through the registration with Gen 4 and then install the Gen X upgrade.

If you continue to have issues, you may need to contact D3D either here or site mail him over at Rendo.

Some apps are system "sensitive". If you make major (sometimes not so major) changes to your system, the registration won't work because the app thinks you're trying to install it to another system. When you install Gen4 and register, do you get a number that you have email the vendor with? That will tell you if that's part of the problem.

Re-download your copy of Gen4 from Rendo and check the readme to see if there's anything about registration for it.

I decided to try to reach Dimension 3D directly as I didn't have any luck in getting GenX to validate. Now the validation option has disappeared from the GenX menu. There is a reference to accessing it via the Edit > Customize option if the validation is missing from the GenX menu. but the only Customiza I can find is in the Windows > Workspace > Customize menu and that doesn't do anything.

Thanks for trying to help me, though.

I thought I'd post the solution to my problem. I discovered via a previous post that you have to change the Workspace layout from City Limits to Hollywood Blvd in order for the Validation option to show up. Imagine that! So simple, yet I'd never figured that out by myself. 'tis not intuitive!!

Maybe it's the workspace you're using. I'm using City Limits and this is what my Windows>Workspace>Customize> looks like and I have a Validate GenX action available to add to a menu. I do recall I entered my Rendo User Name and Rendo Order Number for Gen4 and it validated immediately and unlocked the GenX menus.

Edit: Nevermind.. Glad you found the answer!

    Hi Lindsey,

Yes - I did find the Validate GenX in my City Limits workspace as well, but nothing happened when I tried to add it to the GenX panel. Only when I switched to Hollywood Bld layout was I able to add my Renderosity user name & order number.

But....as you said. I solved the problem so all is OK now. Thanks for trying to help!
