Hi, New User here - help needed

Hi Daz 3D users - I would like someone to point me in the right direction to some documentation or tutorial that can set me on the right path. This software was way more advanced than I anticipated and I'm pretty fluent in Photoshop, Maya, Zbrush, Unity and Blender so I didn't expect the steep difficulty curve for this program.

I just purchased

https://www.daz3d.com/army-general-uniform-bundle

Along with

https://www.daz3d.com/michael-4-complete

I've gotten the Michael body to load in my scene but whenever I try to to double click or drag any piece of clothing from the army general uniform bundle I get a "This action requires an item in the scene to be selected" to which I try selecting Michaels Head (to equip a hat) but it does nothing.

All if not all video tutorials lead to dead urls on Daz's own webpage, the search function does nothing (?) in the program, and adding files to the program seems very convuluted? How are you supposed to use this program?

Any help?

Thanks in advance,

Best,

O

I suspect you are loading a materials prset (or, since it's Poser-format content, I supose I should say a mat Pose). You need to load the clothign models first, they will be in the Figures (clothes) and possibly props (maybe the hat and other simple items) first, then select them and apply the materials. Check that you have in fact installed the Poser filkes as well as the Daz Studio companion files, if any.

This message means you're trying to use a material preset to change the textures of the clothes, not the clothing item itself. You need to load the actual clothing item first, then select it in the scene and apply the materials to it.

First make sure that you did install both files for the product, the main content in Poser format and the DS materials. M4 and items made for him are saved in Poser format, so you need to install the files labelled "poser" too for them to work, not just the files labelled "Daz Studio".
Once everything is installed you should be able to find the cr2 files for the clothes in the Content Library tab, they will be somewhere under Poser Formats > Figures.

  • Not sure if this will help, but,

Make sure you have Michael 4 selected. Look under the scene tab to make sure he is selected, not just the head. (highlighted in yellow).I have had this problem and it usually works for me.  My scene tab is on the right of the screen.
