Using Poser 10 content

I am a new user, who has thus far purchased about $100 in content. I noticed when I tried to use a Genesis 3 item, the importer asked me to choose which kind of clothing it is and which model it was made for.

This makes me think perhaps I could use some of the content I own on Poser 10. Is this possible?

I do not have much on Poser 10 but I have a few things. Do I simply copy a folder somewhere?

Thank you.

Genesis 3 and later are not support ted in Poser, due to the weight-map binding method used - soem people have managed to get an approximation of the figures into Poser, but it requires making changes to their basic set-up.

  • Okay. I am more asking if I can use my Poser 10 clothing and poses in Daz3D, not the other way. I have some clothes and probably a few hundred poses in Poser 10.

For the most part, yes. Of course the potential issues that you might have to deal with include some that are due to differences in the two programs, and some that are merely associated with attempting to use items designed for one figure on another. The latter will be the case whether it is "Poser content" or "DAZ Studio content".

The two big differences that consistently arise between the two programs are material settings and rigging. The material settings can be adjusted in DAZ Studio to correct issues, but any Poser weight-mapped rigging (which applies mostly to figures) will not work in DAZ Studio. With clothing items, conforming items should work fine for the figure that they were designed for in DAZ Studio. Again, going between figures is the same problem within DAZ Studio regardless of whether it is "Poser content" or "DAZ Studio content". The use of Poser strand-based hairs won't easily translate to DAZ Studio, at least not without plugins (and I'm not sure even then). Poser dynamic outfits may work with DForce, but no guarantees there either. The opposite of all these is true when attempting to go the other way, from DAZ Studio to Poser.

In the end, since the DAZ Studio content library contains a Poser runtime library, or at least a dedicated Poser runtime can be added to the content libraries in DAZ Studio, you can always access and try the items that you wish to use - it won't harm anything. Going the other way, the runtime portion of the DAZ Studio content library can also be accessed as-is in Poser by pointing Poser to it. You may find that some content works fine, some works that requires a little modification and there may be some that doesn't work at all for the reasons given.

Clothes made for the Poser 10 weight-mapped figures will presumably have weight-maps themselves. Also, unless you make your own, you won't have the clone shapes for the Poser figures to let AutoFit adjust the mesh to fit one of the Genesis figures.
