I know that there is the almighty - and very expensive in its full version - Photoshop.

I currently use Photoshop Elements 11 which was bundled with my Wacom tablet. Its cool, but I am not really satisfied with it. Many functions like editing and copying layers, working with masks and some other things are a bit complicated and strange (compared to the "real" Photoshop which I had some time before in an older version).

So, what could be an alternative?

Of course I have tried Gimp which is even worse and also very slow (even on my fast PC).

But there is another program that sounds interesting: Corels Paint Shop Pro!
The features seem to be very cool and you can even import Photoshop filters and brushes. The price is just $ 49,99 which is also very attractive.

Does anyone of you use Paint Shop Pro? What are your experiences with it?
I would use it mainly for editing, cropping and postworking my renders.

Paint Shop Pro is quite good, and very popular, I still have a copy of an older version installed, although I don't use it very often, having got to grips with my very old Photoshop, which I still use.

One thing I do really like PSP for is adding a border and / or a frame to finished renders, with just the click of a button.

PSE11 is all that you really need.

I used to use PSP as well, but I'm glad that I bought PSE11, it has a great many PS features in it, including using Camera RAW to edit with (regardless of whether the original image is in RAW format or not). Masking is quite simple I think, and I have lots of tuts on various aspects of masking which I got from Photoshop Elements User which I just renewed at $34 for the year.

There are loads of tutorials all over the web on PSE11, (including the Adobe site), and there is an excellent forum at Elements Village which is free to join.

    Hello,
Well, I'll let someone tell about paint shop pro, since I never used this.
But now ... Gimp is not worse,he has a different way of working , people think gimp is worse, they expect it, mimics photoshop, they spent a lot of time learning how to use photoshop when they had their first contact with an image editor ... although gimp hope to learn from night to day, and then get lost.
The gimp is a powerful editor, but there are times when this person really no time to relearn how to use a new editor
And to edit my renders, I use photoshop, gimp, photoeditor and photoscape. one or two filters / features of each
